Planning a Bilingual Wedding

Whilst the language of love may be universal, it’s important to take all of your guests into account when planning a bilingual wedding. Here at Drangan Video we have filmed at many weddings that have celebrated the joining of two cultures, countries and languages and love to see how our couples have overcome language barriers between guests. In this blog post we are going to look at some of the tips we have learned over our 25 years in the wedding video business, we hope this post assists you when planning your bilingual wedding in Ireland.

Hire a bilingual wedding planner
Many of our couples have found that the assistance of a bilingual wedding planner is absolutely worth it when it comes to planning their wedding. Your bilingual wedding planner can assist with the wording of your invitations, can assist with guest communication during family photo’s and can act as a mediator between your vendors and guests throughout the day.

Bilingual wedding invitations
Rather than sending out your invitations in one language only or designing two separate sets of wedding stationery, perhaps consider dual sided stationery to cover both languages. These reversible invites are also a great memento for guests to keep and treasure and are a symbol of your unique and wonderful relationship.

Wedding website
If you have family travelling long distances to your wedding, it’s always important to give them as much information as possible in the months leading up to the big day. Consider setting up a website that can be viewed in both languages, this will enable your guests to plan in advance, make online bookings for accommodation and learn about the area they will be visiting.

The ceremony
If at all possible, hire a bilingual celebrant to officiate at your wedding. Rather than directly translating every word and adding considerable length to your wedding ceremony, an experienced bilingual celebrant will know exactly how to conduct your ceremony so that it is inclusive to all in attendance.

Bilingual family and friends
Ask any bilingual family and friends in attendance to look out for guests who may be struggling with the language barrier. This will help to break the ice between family members of both sides and will greatly assist with the comfort of your guests who may be feeling a little overwhelmed by their unfamiliar surroundings.

The Speeches
Ask those who are making speeches to keep them to a certain length. There’s nothing worse than a room full of people listening to a speech that they can’t understand. Consider having the speeches transcribed and translated for guests prior to the big day, these can then be projected on a screen during the speeches. You may also ask your top table to incorporate both languages into their speeches if they are comfortable doing so, remember a little bit of effort will go a very long way!

Celebrate
As part of your celebrations, incorporate both cultures and languages into the big day. Celebrate the differences and use them to unite your two families for a day and night to remember.

If you are planning a wedding in Ireland, whether bilingual or not, Eamon here at Drangan Video would love to hear from you. As well as being top-notch wedding videographers we’re also great communicators and will always go the extra mile to ensure you and your guests have a great experience.

In this blog post we are going to look at some DIY wedding favour ideas that you may like to try for yourself. Whether you want to incorporate DIY for budgetary reasons or just want to add something personal to your big day, we’re sure these ideas will spark some inspiration.

Jams and Chutneys
Are you a bit of a whizz in the kitchen, like to spend your time cooking delicacies and sharing them with those you love? Then why not consider providing your guests with a homemade jam, chutney or pickle to take home as a gift? Adding personalised labels to your jars with the date of your wedding will ensure your guests leave feeling special. A taste of your home in the homes of those you love, what could be nicer?

Sweet Treats
Fill organza or customised paper bags with sweet treats of your choice. Ask your friends or bridal party around for a night of sweet tasting and bag filling and provide your guests with something special for your big day. Using ribbons to secure organza bags can allow you the opportunity to extend your colour scheme to every seat in the venue.

Mini Potted Plants
Perhaps you and your loved one are keen gardeners or love the outdoors? Maybe you have a special connection to a specific plant or flower? Bulk buy some mini pots on eBay or through a local wholesaler and plant your favourite flower, tree or fern to give to your guests as a wedding favour. Include a care card to let your guests know how to get the most from their mini potted plant and even add a personal note to each favour.

Cookies
Nothing says thank you quite like a bag of homemade baked goods – think of that welcoming aroma and how it will make your guest feel! A little paper bag full of mini cookies or a singular large cookie for each guest will be appreciated later in the evening or can be brought home for a treat to enjoy with a coffee the next day.

Mini Drinks
Are you a fan of brewing your own beer or making your own wine? Why not share your passion with your guests by providing samples of your home brew? Personalised labels and notes to accompany each drink will ensure your guests know just how much you appreciate them.

Hiring a Drone for your Wedding Video

Here at Drangan Video, we have been providing wedding videography services for over 25 years and have recently added drone videography  to our packages. The trend for aerial images is set to keep on growing and we have embraced all this technology has to offer over the past 2 years. Take a look at some of the sample videos right here on our website to see how drone footage can add an element of drama, beauty and incredible scenery to your wedding video.

Drone Wedding Video

Wedding drone  videography is rising in popularity for couples right across Ireland (and with good reason), however, it is incredibly important that you deal with an experienced operator. While the end result is of course the most important aspect of drone footage, safety is absolutely paramount at all times. The drones we use here at Drangan Video are essentially mini helicopters with an on-board camera that captures images and video footage from an elevated height. We have undertaken in-depth training in order to provide this service and are fully licensed to operate drones within the Republic of Ireland. Don’t risk accidents on the happiest day of your life by hiring someone who lacks the experience or credentials to operate and film with a hi-tech drone.

Bride and Groom Drone Photo

We want you to feel safe and secure in the knowledge that the team from Drangan Video are absolute experts at what they do! We will collaborate with any onsite vendors, including your photographer, will scope out the surrounding area and make ourselves familiar with any flight restrictions that may be in place near the venue. Our promise to you is to provide incredible aerial footage of your wedding without ever having to worry about safety or intrusion on your big day.

Your wedding day is the most important day of your life and we aim to capture every moment in all its beautiful glory. Our state of the art drones will deliver panoramic footage that is both unique and memorable. Combined with our traditional wedding videography, the drone footage will add something truly special to your wedding video.

Wedding Ceremony

Are you planning a wedding in the great outdoors or tying the knot in a particularly scenic part of Ireland? If so, we would love to talk to you about the possibilities that drone footage can bring to your wedding video.

Getting creative with the many possibilities aerial footage offers, means wedding videos will never be the same again. Maybe you and your bridal party fancy taking a lie down in a meadow on a sunny day and want it captured from above? The possibilities are endless! With our experience and ideas and your imagination, we can provide you with the most memorable wedding video possible.

Planning for the Weather on your Wedding Day

Here at Drangan Video in Tipperary and Kilkenny, we have been providing wedding videography services to Ireland’s most loved-up couples for almost 25 years. We have seen every type of weather conceivable, quite often all on the same day, and we know that a little preparation can go a very long way!

Wedding Videography Services Tipperary Kilkenny

Due to our somewhat unpredictable climate, planning for the weather is an absolute ‘must’ when it comes to preparing for your Irish wedding. Getting married in June or July does not guarantee sunshine as we all know, and you could end up with blue skies and high temperatures in November when the winds blow in the right direction. In this blog post, we are going to look at some tips that you can keep in mind when planning your big day. Remember though, that no matter what the weather, your day is going to be a day to remember, rain, sunshine, snow or ice won’t make a jot of difference when you say ‘I do’ to the one you love!

Umbrellas for guests:
Pre-pack umbrellas into family and friends cars in the days leading up to your big day. Choose playful colours, pastels or quirky designs to add a splash of colour to your day. Whether the umbrellas are used to ward off the rain or to protect your guests from the sunshine, you can be assured they’ll be appreciated by all who use them. Perhaps consider getting the umbrellas personalised with a monogram, these make great wedding favours and mementos for your guests and you can be guaranteed they’ll be used again!
Blankets and throws:
A lovely touch for the evening of your wedding when guests tend to wander outdoors, consider providing some throws and blankets to ward off the cool night air. If you’re having an outdoor or marquee wedding, these little touches will make all the difference for guests of all ages.

Sunscreen:
If it looks like it’s going to be a sunny day, consider leaving some sunscreen in the ladies and gents restrooms as part of a toiletries hamper. If you have children attending your wedding celebrations, you can be assured that their parents will welcome this little touch to keep the kiddies sunburn free for the day.

Have a plan B:
If you are planning an outdoor wedding, it’s imperative that you have a plan B for your big day. Speak with your wedding venue and vendors in advance to put a plan in place for a rainy day event. Ask your venue to have an indoor area available and ready for your guests in the event of rain. With one or two days to go until the wedding you should have a clearer idea of the forecast and can start putting plans in motion.

Warm/cool your guests with a welcome drink:
Whether you’re looking at soaring temperatures or romantic snow, a welcoming drink for your guests upon arrival can make all the difference. A winter wedding paired with mulled wine is a real treat for the senses and can help your guests warm up, relax and get ready for the celebrations. During the summer months you can opt to serve cooling cocktails and juices. It’s the little touches that make a big difference!
