Choosing the Live Music for your Wedding

When it comes to planning the entertainment for your big day, you really can’t go wrong with live music, whether that be in the form of a band, your favourite solo performer or an ensemble of classical musicians. Live music adds a little bit of something special to the occasion and really breaks the ice between those who may be a little shy at first to get out on the dance floor.

Here at Drangan Video, we recently filmed a weddings in Tipperary and Kilkenny that featured the most amazing  wedding band and can honestly say that they always give it their all by working  hard to get everybody out on the dance floor.

Johnny B and The Boogie Men   are a 4-piece wedding band from Tipperary, they are  the no 1 Tipperary Wedding Band.
They are a band with experience and energy that guarantee to have your dance floor full the whole night through. Their song selection is very wide and varied with hits from 50’s all the way up to the present day.

The band encourages audiences interaction so bring your dancing shoes!!
You know that song you love?…. we know it too.

With this in mind we thought we would share some tips with you on how best to choose the entertainment for your very big day.

  1. Do your research

The first port of call should of course be the Internet, where a simple search for wedding singer, wedding entertainer or wedding band in your area will throw up a wealth of available talent.

  1. Look for reviews

The next step, and one that can sometimes be overlooked, should be to look for reviews on your top 5 choices. You will find these online and of course through friends and family who may have attended a wedding in the past where this particular band or singer performed.

  1. Check out social media

Most wedding entertainers worth their salt will now have a Facebook page, YouTube channel or a Twitter account, if not all of the above. Let’s take Facebook as an example: On the bands Facebook page you should be able to find a website address, reviews from previous brides and grooms, videos of their latest performances and get an overall idea of their ‘vibe’.

4 Try to check them out live

Once you’ve tracked down your shortlist online, you can then visit their websites or social media pages and find a list of upcoming gigs. Whether that is in a local bar or at a nearby event. Take yourself and your intended for a night out and see how well these guys perform in front of a lively crowd.

  1. Talk with the Band

Once you’ve seen a selection of the entertainers live and are satisfied with your preferred choice, it’s now time to talk to the band. Keep in mind that not all groups or entertainers may have availability for your chosen date so you need to have a backup choice just in case.

  1. Make your Booking

Now that you have everything in place and the entertainer is free on the date of your wedding, you can now go ahead and pay the deposit. Most entertainers will expect the remaining balance to be paid on the day of the wedding, so this can be a little task for your best man. A few days before the wedding, give your best man an envelope with the final payment and ask him to give this to the band on the day of the wedding.

Including Nature in your Wedding Day

The beauty about getting married in counties such as Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow or Waterford  is that you are always surrounded by nature, scenic views and a unique heritage. The same of course is true for all counties in Ireland, so why not make the most of the wonderful land we live in by making it an integral part of your big day.

Nature-inspired wedding décor adds such a unique touch to weddings. We’ve seen brides and grooms across the country incorporate nature into their wedding décor with simply breath-taking results.

There are so many different ways that you can incorporate elements of nature into your big day, here are some of the more unique elements we have witnessed while filming weddings throughout the country!

Carved Initials

Seeing love-struck Initials carved onto tree bark is one of the oldest and most iconic symbols of love in the modern world, so, why not incorporate something similar into your wedding day?

On one occasion we were delighted to witness that the bride and groom had their initials carved onto pieces of wood, which were heart-shaped, and then used to decorate the tables at the their wedding.

What a wonderful way to incorporate natural elements and even more romance into your wedding day!

Gilded Fruit Centrepieces

Fruit can make for a wonderful centrepiece all on its own, but if you want to make it even more extravagant, choose some metallic spray paints, and spray the fruit for a romantic touch. Gilded fruit looks absolutely beautiful at the centre of a wedding table. If you want the fruit to be more than just a centrepiece, opt for edible paint so that the guests can tuck in at any stage of the day or night

Wooden Table Numbers

When you have a sizeable guest list it makes sense to have your tables numbered or named so that every guest can easily find where they are sitting. Why not give your table numbers or names a touch of the outdoors and have them carved from a special piece of stone or wood? Guest names can also be etched onto pebbles from your favourite beach or placed with posies from your own garden.

Decorated Tree Branches

Tree branches, twigs and ferns can make a wonderful addition to the décor of your wedding. Consider placing tree branches in a tall cylinder vase, and add some fresh flowers alongside it to create a dramatic centrepiece. Scatter some tea lights to further enhance the outdoor theme.

There are so many ways in which you can incorporate nature into your big day, choose plants or features that are personal to you and your intended, perhaps items that tell some part of your very own story.

Planning Interactive Entertainment For Your Wedding Day

Drangan Video has recently been lucky enough to provide wedding videograper services for a number of weddings in Kilkenny and Tipperary. At these weddings we were able to gain some inspiration for this ‘interactive’ wedding blog post, which we hope you will enjoy.

Apart from the vows – and the brides’ dress of course – one of the most important parts of any wedding party is the entertainment. It’s the entertainment that helps you and your guests to relax, kick your shoes off and really get into the spirit of things. Over the past number of years we have seen a large shift from the traditional entertainment of just a band or a DJ and a move towards a more interactive experience. The band and DJ will always have it’s place and we would be 100% remiss to think otherwise, however, it may be worth checking out some other varieties of entertainment that will compliment the music and have your guests raving about your big day for years to come.

Whether you’re having a laid-back outdoor wedding or a traditional formal wedding, it’s a good idea to ensure your guests are entertained throughout what can be a long day (especially for the kids).

  1. Hire a Magician

A magician is fun for guests of all ages, making it a great form of entertainment to have at your wedding. Most magicians on the Irish wedding circuit are happy to perform during the reception, after the toasts are completed and in the foyer as a welcome for your guests.

For those of you who have children at your big day, a magician can be a great way to get them to gather together and relax for a bit whilst the entertainer does his thing!

  1. Dance Lessons

Weddings and dancing go hand in hand, but why not take it a step further and offer your guests dance lessons.

Hire a dance instructor to teach your guests how to dance. It’s a great way to get your guests involved and to get everybody up on the dance floor.

Visions of line dancing, cha cha cha’s and old time waltzes will make great memories for you and your guests.

  1. Cocktail Bar & Liquor Tasting

We have seen cocktail bars now at a number of wedding venues, and they go down an absolute treat with the adults at the party. Consider hiring a professional cocktail maker or mixologist who can demonstrate and entertain those guests who want to avoid that queue at the bar. Let the adults sample some exotic liquors and consider setting up a kiddies cocktail bar with sodas, ice-creams and fruit juices, this will ensure all ages have an unforgettable experience

  1. Pick and Mix Sweet Stand

Rather than just handing out sweets to the guests or leaving parcels at their table, why not set up a pick and mix stand instead? The pick and mix sweet stand is an attraction that is sure to attract guests of all ages. Guests can help themselves and take home customised jars of goodies as a special memento of your big day.

  1. Make your Own Food Station

Whether it is crepes or hot dogs, a make your own food station can be a great way to make mealtime a bit more exciting. This could get a bit messy, so be prepared!

We’re sure there’s lots more interactive options available for weddings up and down the country and we would love to hear about any unique suggestions you may have, so please feel free to drop us a line.

Lovely Country Style Wedding Video In Doon Co. Limerick

On March 18th 2016 I had the pleasure of filming  the wedding of Katie and David who exchanged their vows  in St. Patrick’s Church Doon, Co. Limerick.
It was a wedding with a difference,  just a little bit off center of main stream,  coming from a farming back ground in the hearth of Tipperary,  country style weddings are very close to my own heart.

The wedding video begins with a visit to Katie’s parents  house, where katie grew up and helped out on the family farm. The spring sunshine was beaming down upon  the lush green pastures which surrounded the  traditional farm house and buildings.
When I arrived the bridal preps were in full swing with a mixture of fun and slightly nervous pre  wedding  excitement, a beautifully restored V W Camper was the means of transport to the church.

Doon is a litle country village in east County Limerick,  close to the border of my own  County Tipperary.

Carrigmore Farm Self-Catering accommodation  is situated on the grounds of the Cummins farm which is 3 miles from Doon village in County Limerick. The building is south facing, tucked away in a peaceful courtyard of the farm, down a small lane which overlooks cattle grazing in the fields.

Carrigmore, or “Big Rock” in the Irish Language, is a major geological feature in the area. It is a solid rock of flint that was deposited long ago by glaciers. From the house you can look out the back window at the rock to the North and the beauty of the surrounding countryside with the Galtee Mountains in the distance to the South.
Katie has fond childhood memories of climbing Carrigmore and as it happens the ” Big Rock” was her choice of location for  amazing wedding photos and stunning wedding video footage. We were transported to base of the rock on the back of a farm jeep, wellies were the order of day for our journey to the summit, it was the most amazing wedding footage that I have ever recorded.

Tipperary, t he gracious Palatine Suite can host up to 280 guests, with twinkling chandeliers and incredible views it is fit for a princess and guaranteed to wow.  In my role as a  wedding videographer im a regular visitor to Ballykisteen, it is always a  pleasant  experience the management and staff are so nice to deal with.
