Are you proposing this Christmas ?

Are you hoping to pop the question over the festive period? Feeling a little nervous, excited and anxious? You have absolutely nothing to worry about! Proposing to the person you love will be an amazing experience and one you and your partner will remember for the rest of your lives. If you and your partner are not big on grand gestures or uncomfortable with elaborate set-ups, do things your own way. Every proposal should be different and unique to the couple involved, there’s no need to plot some elaborate scheme when a simple ‘will you marry me’ is often the most perfect thing you can do.

For those of you who are looking for some proposal ideas, we have listed some below that may help to inspire your own unique proposal.

1. The Advent Calendar
Make an advent calendar for the love of your life; use a simple booklet or a series of gifts or notes each day for your partner to open. If you opt for daily small gifts, you can simply pop the ring into the date of your choosing, if you want them to read a special note every day, you can write your special question for the date of your choice. A wonderful surprise for that someone special in your life.

2. Hang it on the Tree
Yes, as simple as it sounds, this little idea is one of our favourites. Simply wrap the ring box in some beautiful packaging or cover it in gold or silver foil and hide it in amongst the other decorations on the tree. On the day of the proposal you can ask your partner where that decoration came from and ask them to take a closer look!

3. Christmas Morning with the Kids
If you have children, there’s nothing better than getting them involved in Mammy and Daddy’s happy day. Ask the kids to present your partner with the ring, all wrapped up with the other presents under the tree. This will be a moment that you can all remember together for the rest of your lives.

4. Christmas Dinner Proposal
If you’d like to propose on Christmas Day, try to incorporate the proposal in with your family meal. Consider hiding the ring in your partner’s dessert (make sure it’s not too well hidden, you want them to see it and not eat it!) or using the ring as a napkin holder on their place setting.

Whatever way you choose to propose to that someone special in your life, you can be assured that it’s always the question that matters most. Whether you plan it well in advance or simply pop the question at a time that feels right, hearing ‘I do’ will be all that’s needed to make your proposal a success.

For all you budding fiancés out there, we wish you nothing but happiness and our heartiest congratulations for the years ahead

Typically these venues will be set up to give you an idea of how their rooms look like when decorated for a traditional wedding. The venues will be able to provide you with per head prices, give you an idea of availability and answer any questions you have on the day. Your Wedding Day Checklist

The big day has finally arrived and all those months of planning are going to pay dividend today! It’s an exciting time and making the most of today and enjoying every moment should be your top priority. It may seem a little late in the day to be writing checklists but if you have this on hand on the morning of the wedding, you can be assured that everything else will fall into place. Most of this list will seem obvious at first glance, but you’d be surprised what can slip your mind when you’re about to embark on the happiest day of your life.

Wedding Day Checklist
For the Bride:

Wedding Dress – This should go without saying, but have your wedding dressed pressed, steamed and ready to wear in the days leading up to your Wedding Day. Hang your dress in a place where it is safe and out of reach from little hands.

Headpieces – If you are wearing a veil or a floral headpiece, double check you have all the necessary clips and pins to secure it in place for your big day. Store in a safe area that is free from damp and curious eyes!

Perfume – Choose a perfume that is precious to you, a scent that will forever remind you of your big day. A scent can bring back a thousand memories and you will want to ensure you have a spritz or two of your favourite perfume before you leave for the ceremony.

Old, new, borrowed, blue – If you’re a traditionalist and want to follow the old, new, borrowed and blue custom, make sure you have all 4 in place at least the night before the ceremony.

Bouquet and Flowers – Make sure you have all of the flowers that were ordered. If you have arranged delivery to your home on the morning of the wedding, ask one of your bridesmaids to double check that everything has arrived before the delivery person leaves.

Shoes – Yes, it’s unlikely that you would forget your shoes, but have you remembered to polish them and make sure there are no scuffmarks? This should be done the night before the wedding and your shoes stored in a box overnight to keep them in ship-shape.

Accessories – Gather together all of the accessories you will need to wear on your big day. This will include your tie, cufflinks, watch, belt, tie clip and suspenders if you have chosen to wear them. Ask your best man to check that all of the groomsmen have done the same and you can relax in the knowledge that you have everything covered!

Boutonnieres – When your boutonnieres are delivered in the morning, do a thorough check to ensure no one has been left out. You’ll need one for each of the grooms party, your parents and other close family that will be sitting at the top table – and of course yourself.

Cologne – Have you chosen a cologne to wear on the day, does your bride to be have a favourite scent? Make sure you have your cologne on hand for a quick spritz before you leave for the venue and ask your Best Man to bring it to the venue for you so you can have a fresh spritz a little later.

Planning a Wedding in December

Over the past decade we have seen a huge upsurge in winter weddings, particularly in the seasonal month of December. If you and your loved one are getting married in December of this year or 2020, we hope you find this article helpful when making your all-important plans.

The team here at Drangan Video are always delighted to film winter weddings and we come fully equipped with all the latest technology, know-how and videography equipment to ensure we capture your special day in all its winter glory!

Below you will find some tips to ensure your winter wedding goes as smoothly as possible:

1. Choosing your venue
When choosing a venue for your winter wedding, it’s important to take the weather into account. If you have opted for a church wedding ceremony, try to choose a venue that is close to the church so that any adverse weather conditions won’t impact on your guests when travelling between the ceremony and the celebrations. For those of you who are exchanging vows in a civil ceremony, select a venue that will allow you to host both the ceremony and the reception in the same location. This will ensure that you and your guests will not have to brave the cold weather unnecessarily.

2. Daylight Hours are Shorter
It’s important to remember that daylight hours are at a minimum during the month of December, so you will need to plan accordingly. Plan your ceremony as early as possible to leave ample time for photographs, outdoor video shoots and travel time to your venue.

3. Keep Warm
Keeping you, your bridal party and your guests warm and comfortable should be a top priority when planning your big day, after all you don’t want the most important people in your life to be suffering with colds and coughs after your big day. Purchase warm shrugs or wraps for your bridesmaids and offer guests blankets and throws in any outdoor seating areas. You should also ask the venue to provide outdoor heating in any areas where guests might congregate.

4. Winter Warming Drinks
Upon arrival at your reception, it’s a great idea to offer guests a warming celebratory drink, whether that’s mulled wine, Irish coffees or a hot whisky, you can be assured that your guests will appreciate the effort on a cold December day.

5. Winter Wedding Décor
Speak with your venue about the seasonal décor that will be in place in the suite or room you have booked for your celebrations. You may not celebrate Christmas or may not be a particularly religious person, so it’s important that you make your décor requirements clear to the hotel or venue in advance. Keep in mind that the seasonal décor in hotels and churches at this time of year could really help you save some money!

6. Winter Wedding Favours
If you are a lover of Christmas and want to include some winter wedding favours for your guests, you could consider personalised tree baubles, sugared almonds or Christmas crackers. All are readily available online and some or Ireland’s leading charities sell Christmas tree baubles at affordable rates!
