Many of my couples say that they would love to have a wedding video but they haven’t allowed for it in their budget. There are so many things to budget for when planning a wedding, costs add up quickly and many couples find themselves having to decide which suppliers will be included in the final list. If it comes down to cutting out certain wedding day costs to suit your budget, don’t cut something as personal and long lasting as the wedding video. I’m not trying sell my product in this blog post but I do want to share a personal view regarding wedding videography. My wife and myself were married in 1983 at that time a wedding video was a very expensive luxury that we could not afford, we have a lovely photo album which we take out at family gatherings, all these years later we often comment, If those pictures could only speak.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY VS VIDEOGRAPHY
Photos are timeless they can be saved on PCs and hand held devices for sharing with family and friends they can also be printed and preserved in a wedding album. A photo is a single frame frozen in time allowing you to look at it for a few seconds or minutes, every photo tells its own story. Videography allows you to re-live your ceremony, speeches and sound bites from morning preps. The combination of audio and video work together to relive the emotions from the most important day in your life.
Couples say to me that their wedding day flew by but we are so happy to have a highlights film and a full documentary video of the entire day on USB and DVD. I’ve heard from couples reflecting on their wedding day that their biggest regret was not having a videographer It is a worth while investment that will appreciate in value and let you relive all the emotions time and time again with your children & grandchildren in future years. For me here at Drangan Video its all about persevering beautiful moments in time that pass us by, memories that were often forgotten thankfully now we have the ability now to capture time and hold on to it forever looking at it over again and again. That is the magic of video and what I do at every wedding I record.

Shopping for a wedding videographer in Kilkenny
What is the style of the finished product Music Driven / Montage described as a music video style, we use very little natural audio from the day, all video captions are overlaid with music. This would suit couples who are working on a tight budget, or simply don’t like hearing the sound of their own voices, it has been requested from time to time and is a nice memory of the day.
Dialog Driven Wedding Film
This is one of our most requested wedding film styles, finding natural audio clips from the day, using real toasts, the wedding vows and general audio from the full day to form a unique wedding story. It requires more skill and time its one of our more up market packages, judging by feedback from our customers its worth the extra spend.
Some videographers like using very short clips fast style with upbeat music, others edit with a slow dreamy style while paying great attention to color grading. Each videographer will have their own natural default production style. My style certainly dose focus on the couples personality and is dialog driven, when you view Drangan Video films, you will see the couples personality shining through.
Outdoor Wedding Video in Kilkenny
So ask what is your Style of Videography? Don’t be afraid to ask your videographer this question, It will help you understand what to expect from your wedding film. My style has always been a journalistic approach allowing for more non intrusive free flowing wedding day. I get some shots with imperfect lighting and unusual angles, for couples and guests who prefer been filmed from a distance this would be their perfect choice of wedding videography.
Who will be filming your wedding. Here at Drangan Video all our weddings are shot and edited by Eamon, if an extra videographer is required that can be arranged. A good personality is important especially for a wedding videographer are you comfortable dealing with them, are they good to be around on the day and do your other vendors feel comfortable working with them on the day.
Try to talk with your proposed videographer to make sure that you are comfortable with him/her, Photographers have told me stories about videographers who were trying to take control of the photo shoot and not working in harmony during the photo call, all that tension will have a negative impact on the Bridal Party and families. Most videographers can produce good results when conditions are perfect, but professionals produce great results even when things are not going as planned, the weather can be unpredictable here in Kilkenny So we always need to have a plan B
Can you tell me about your wedding video experience You will want your wedding videographer to have many years of experience, the longer they have been shooting weddings the more they have learned and will be able to handle any unexpected situation that may pop up.

Have you filmed at this wedding venue before?
If your videographer has filmed at the venue before, they will know all the best places for the best shots, they will know the management and staff which helps to keep everyone happy and smiling.
Have you worked with my photographer before This is a very important question to ask your videographer, also ask your photographer the same question. If the photographer and videographer aren’t able to work smoothly together, it is going to affect your photos and video and your personal mood. An experienced videographer will be willing to adapt their style to blend in with the photographer.
The Final Product The final product that your wedding videographer is offering can be confusing the reason is because we all offer different packages, getting your head around the following buzz words is important FacebookTeaser/Sneak Preview/Trailer/Instagram Highlights, These are similar names for the same product. Our short edit films are usually between 1 minute and 5 minutes duration on Instagram, they are the films that our couples would have watched when checking out our work. We like to keep it simple yet producing high quality wedding videos ( Stylistic documentary Edits)
Delivery Format DVD, Blu-Ray, USB, Online We deliver DVD, Blu-Ray, USB Drives and online more and more videographers do not deliver these formats but more experienced videographers will still offer these delivery options. All our highlight films are delivered online in addition to physical delivery.
When will I get the final product You will have to decide whether a faster delivery, or a top quality wedding film is more important to you, a faster delivery usually will mean less quality but a longer time frame doesn’t always guarantee a better video, our turnaround on delivery is normally 4months.
How much do you cost A wedding video can cost anything from as little as €600 right up to €3,000 you can spend as much or as little as you want. Wedding videography is a creative talent and because of that the price gap can vary dramatically. A well established seasoned videographer is going to be at least as expensive as your photographer. Our top video package @ €1200 provides coverage of the full day from morning preps up to 11pm in the evening.
Should I take the risk of hiring someone with little experience. You can’t do a re-run of your wedding day, you won’t get a second chance with the video. A highly experienced, skilled videographer will capture a wedding in ways that a budget videographer simply can’t, when you enter the church to see your groom, you want to remember his face, and not the clumsy videographer who has setup his tripod in the center aisle. You don’t want an award looking camera man appearing in every wedding photo. Novice videographers are more likely not to have a backup plan when cameras, recorder, cards or hard drives fail. Low budget always means low quality product, and you’ll never get second chance for your wedding DVD.
If you are searching for a wedding videographer for your wedding in Kilkenny, Tipperary or any other county, please feel free to contact myself Eamon here at Drangan Video who will be happy chat to you about our range os affordable wedding video packages for 2021 and 2022.

Lisheen Castle Moyne Tipperary for wedding photos
There is something about a castle as a location for wedding photos Lisheen Castle has been beautifully restored and is now a luxury rental vacation property in the heart of Tipperary. I’m reliably informed that small intimate family weddings can take place at the castle.
Denise and Paul made their way to the castle grounds for for video and photo shoot, the grounds are a credit the owners it was my first visit to this hidden gem in the heart of Tipperary, I’m looking forward to many more visits in the future.
The couple received a rousing reception from family and friends as they entered the Anner Hotel, for me as a wedding supplier its very comforting to see how well Deirdre Crowe and staff are dealing with with covid restrictions, everything done to the letter of the law.
Thanks to Denise and Paul for choosing me as their wedding videographer and also for allowing their wedding to be shared on social media.

Tips for a Planning a Small Wedding
Make sure that your not sharing your venue with another wedding:
From my experience as a wedding videographer I get feedback from lots of couples stating that they don’t want to share their wedding venue with another couple. Make it clear that you want exclusive use regardless of wedding size, having to share your wedding reception is a definite thumbs down
We’ve got some great wedding venues in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford,Cork and throughout Ireland that specialize in hosting micro weddings. These venues take pride in holding very small weddings so they’ll know exactly how to make the most of your 25 guest wedding
Only Invite Your Personal Friends and Family You will need to be pretty rootless with the guest list, that 25 guest limit includes the couple, the celebrant, Videographer/Photographer so now you’re looking at a maximum of 20 guests. Every person that you invite to a small wedding should be someone that you are genuinely close to and is very much part of your life every day.
Do You Need A Wedding Planner for a small Wedding Many venues offer a wedding coordinator service as part of the wedding package, with a smaller number of guests you will have less people to call upon to do certain jobs. Availing of the planner means the day will flow easier and you won’t have to worry about your wedding reception time table.
Sharing Your Wedding on Social Media Yes or No Unplugging your wedding entails asking your guests to put away their phone cameras and focus on living in the moment. Privacy seems a bigger consideration for couples who are having a small wedding. As a wedding videographer I’ve often been asked not to share any video clips from the wedding on Facebook, Instagram or other social media sites, so don’t be afraid to ask guests or videographer to refrain from sharing on social media.
Maxamize Your Wedding Day Memories
If you really want to get married now, my advice is go for it you may need to completely change your original wedding plan forget the large formal wedding by choosing a civil ceremony in a private room at your favorite wedding venue. Whatever your wedding ends up looking like, embrace it forget about your original plan, take advantage of what you’ve got right now. So focus on all the good things, your family, close friends your good health and spend your budget on maxamizing your wedding day memories. Whatever the size of your guest list, your small wedding ideas are a brilliant place to start in creating a memorable and unforgettable wedding day.

Go with a professional
Wedding videography is much more than just turning up and pointing a camera, it takes lots of experience and skill, It also involves just as much work input as your photographer, so accepting an offer from a family friend or a video enthusiast might not be the perfect choice
Different styles of wedding videography
There are so many different styles of videography to choose from, take your time to find a modern style that you really like. Professional videographers are constantly keeping up with latest trends, think about how your video may age over the next few years. Many styles and trends have come and gone over the last 20 years, gone are the long boring 3 hour productions, now wedding films are much shorter with lots of short clips with a fast pace. It’s very important that you do your own research first before meeting a videographer view examples of their work on their website, facebook and Instagram accounts, not just a showreel as they could be hiding the bad parts, find the style that you like and then book a videographer who can create your perfect wedding film.
Communication is key Once you’ve found a videographer that you like and that is within your budget, have a long conversation about your planning for the day and what you would exspect your wedding film to look and sound like. It’s easy to get your wires crossed with mixed messages, now is the time to get it right might be to late when the day is over.
Be sure to ask how many cameras your videographer will use on the day, here at Drangan Video we use a minimum of two cams there are no second chances for a second shoot of your wedding day. It also means that you’ll get get to view the day from different angles lending to a much more exciting production and needless to say better value for money
Getting your wedding video to sound right
When couples think about their wedding video, a beautiful colorful film immediately springs to mind, what happens when you sit down to enjoy your wedding video, only to find that the speeches are not clear due to background noise or your exchange of vows are barely audible, make sure that your videographer is using lots of external audio recorders, perfect sound is just as important as perfect picture.

Just in case backup plan Ask what happens if they’re unable to turn up on your big day due to sickness, do they have a backup plan or can get another professional to cover the day.
Discuss a delivery date for the final production, most professional videographers are very busy, so as a rule of thumb allow at least 6 weeks for delivery of your wedding film.
