The Perfect Flowers for your Winter Wedding

Here at Drangan Video, we have been blessed to film hundreds of winter weddings over our 25 years in business. During this time, we have learned a lot about special touches, unique décor and inspired themes from our brides and grooms and we love nothing more than sharing them with our readers.

In this blog post we are going to look at some of the most wonderful winter wedding flowers, that are sure to add a touch of magic to your décor, bouquets and boutonnieres.

You would be forgiven for thinking that the winter months in Ireland don’t offer a lot of options in the floral department, after all our climate doesn’t encourage all year round flowering! However, there are some real floral gems to be found in our gardens, hedgerows, countryside and of course with our wonderful Irish florists. Take a look at the list below and envisage the perfect winter bouquet with these special blooms and foliage.

Eucalyptus

Whilst not native to Ireland, the eucalyptus can now be found on virtually every corner you turn. The silvery/blue tint and minty aroma is perfect to fill out any winter wedding bouquet. Add eucalyptus to your table centrepieces too for an extra touch of something special.

Berries

Take a ramble in your local countryside to avail of some of the most wonderful winter colours available in Ireland. Whether you opt for holly or hypericum berries, you can be assured that these will look wonderful in any floral arrangements, bouquets or centrepieces.

Pine Cones

Bouquets and centrepieces don’t have to be made up entirely of flowers and foliage. As with berries, pinecones, nuts and other winter fruits can add something really special to your décor and floral arrangements.

Spices

This may seem like an odd one, but stick with us! Cinnamon and star anise just smell like winter right? Think about adding one or two of each to your winter bouquet by attaching to a length of wire, the sweet, comforting smell will add a touch of warmth to your big day.

Roses

It goes without saying, that roses are one of the most popular choices for bridal bouquets, however they can be expensive at this time of the year, especially if you’re looking for red. Talk with your florist about the options available to you and perhaps opt for more subtle colours such as romantic pinks, creams and whites to enhance your arrangement.

Pine

The smell of fresh pine is one of the most wonderful winter scents we have come across, and it’s absolutely abundant in our countryside, towns and villages. No need to pay a fortune when we have such incredible foliage available outside our doors.
