Kilkenny is one of the most exciting wedding destinations in Ireland it offers a magnificent choice of top class wedding venues, in this week’s blog I take a look at just three of those venues which I really like.
If you’re looking for a wedding videographer in Kilkenny, don’t drag your heels on making a decision (pick Drangan Video, you know you want to….!). I’ve noticed the popularity of the City as a wedding venue increasing rapidly over the last few years. The combination of beautiful surroundings and good transport links makes this the
ideal location for family and friends to gather.
Here I take a look at three of the best wedding venues Kilkenny City has to offer.
Best For A Dramatic Backdrop: Butler House
Situated in the centre of Kilkenny city, this striking property is the Dower House of Kilkenny Castle. Its name is taken from the Butler Family, the Dukes & Earls of Ormonde who made Kilkenny Castle their home for 500 years.
After being ravaged by time and neglect, the Butler House underwent an extensive restoration in the 1970s, under the instruction of Kilkenny Design. The building was reinstated to its former glory, with the magnificent sweeping staircases, beautiful marbled fireplaces decorative plastered ceilings, and captivating walled gardens all lovingly restored.
The result is a spectacular venue, perfect for a grand civil wedding ceremony and reception.
As a wedding videographer with an eye for backgrounds, I am especially fond of the Butler House’s beautiful Georgian garden, and the stunning view towards Kilkenny Castle. The garden’s privacy creates the perfect environment for romantic moments, while the grand architecture, and presence of the Castle add a sense of drama
and grandeur to the occasion.
Best For A Huge Ballroom: Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel
Of course the rest of the venue is lovely, but it’s the ballroom that really sells this hotel. It is huge and magnificent. If you have a large number of guests to invite, this hotel is a great option.
The King’s Ballroom has recently undergone a renovation, creating an elegant self-contained space, complete with its own car and smoking area. The unique ceiling combined with customisable mood lighting can be used to create any kind of atmosphere you want for your party. The hotel itself boasts four-star accommodation, making it the perfect place for a pre-wedding overnight stay, or a place to crash after the party has ended. The property is located beside famous Kilkenny landmarks such as the Medieval Rothe House, St Canice’s Cathedral and of course, the magnificent Kilkenny Castle.
Best For A Party Atmosphere: Springhill Court Hotel
If you want a wedding where you can leave it to the experts, turn up and enjoy a good party, then Springhill Court Hotel is an excellent choice.
Their all-inclusive wedding package has the whole day covered including a luxury red carpet on arrival, all the decorations, five course meal, and everything you need to a enjoy lively party in the evening. The beautifully lit Tara ballroom is the perfect setting to celebrate with friends and family. The hotel boasts a romantic bridal suite and luxurious spa, making it the ideal place to spend your first night as a married couple.
Springhill Court is located a few minutes out of the city, making it easy to reach. But if guests want to stay the night once the party is over, the hotel has ample accommodation. And brides can be assured of the full attention of the staff as the venue pledges to host only one wedding per day. As I said, Kilkenny City is becoming a very popular wedding destination, so if you find a venue that suits, don’t take too long putting down the deposit. Then secure your wedding videographer (me) as quickly as possible.
