Celebrating 25 Years of Wedding Videography

If you had told me 25 years ago that my little videography business would still be going strong in 2019, I may have found it hard to believe, yet here we are today celebrating this incredible milestone!

It goes without saying that this would not be possible without the thousands of couples who have trusted Drangan Video with their precious memories. I’m proud to say that in quite a few cases, I am now filming weddings for the sons and daughters of some of my earlier clients and it is an absolute honour for me that they thought that much of my videography that it’s become a family tradition. A huge thank you to all of the couples over the past 25 years, without you and your love for each other, Drangan Video may not have been so successful. Thank you.

25 years wedding videography

Over the past 25 years, I have seen trends change dramatically, from dress styles to catering and décor. However, there has been one thing that has remained constant – Ireland is a wonderful place to get married. In fact this has actually improved over the past number of years because we can now celebrate all marriages equally, it was a long time coming and a hard fought battle but I’m very proud to be part of a generation that made this change happen. All love is equal and our fellow countrymen and women agree wholeheartedly – to be part of this change in society and to witness it first hand has been one of the most emotional and rewarding parts of my 25 years in business.

As well as changes in wedding trends, I have seen huge advances in videography technology and techniques. Thankfully the cameras we use now at Drangan Video are a far cry from the bulky, heavy video cameras I started out with in the 90’s. Improved editing software, high-resolution videos, hi-tech video equipment and advanced video formatting have contributed massively to the service we provide.

Every year for the past 25 years I have had the privilege to speak with and meet new couples who are incredibly excited about their big day. This absolutely never gets old and I love nothing more than capturing their big day on video for eternity.

The nationwide policy here at Drangan Video means I have had the pleasure of filming weddings in every county in Ireland. I get to see the wildest corners of Connemara and the busy city lights of Dublin as well as the castles and scenic views of Tipperary and Kilkenny. I can tell you that a working life simply doesn’t get better than this!

Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the couples that have trusted Drangan Video with their memories and I look forward to meeting future generations so we can add another precious layer to those videos.

Essential Wedding Planning Tips and Tricks

This week we are going to give you some insight into the very best wedding planning tips and tricks to help the wedding planning process go smoothly for you and your intended. Drangan Video offer professional wedding videography services in Kilkenny and nationwide we are always on hand to provide expert advice to our budding Brides and Grooms. To enquire about the packages we have on offer, please feel free to get in touch with Eamon here at Drangan and he’ll guide you through the many options available.

Tip 1: Guest numbers are important
Now that the excitement of the engagement celebrations are over, it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty! You don’t need to make up a precise guest list at this stage, but having an approximate number will greatly assist you with the rest of your planning.

Tip 2. Check your dates
When choosing a date to get married, most of us never think of issues that may arise, but it’s incredibly important to check the calendar before you commit to a date. Public holidays and big local event days are probably best avoided as they can increase hotel rooms costs for your guests and may be problematic for those driving in heavy traffic to celebrate your big day.

Tip 3: Pay attention to mother nature (particularly in Ireland)
Whilst we all dream of a day with blue skies and endless sunshine, it’s always essential that we plan for every weather eventuality. Planning a wedding in July in Ireland does not guarantee sunshine so keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for any last minute changes to the weather.

Tip 4. Ask for recommendations
Once you have booked your venue, it’s time to start looking at your other wedding vendors. We have found that most hotels and vendors keep a preferred supplier list, which they are more than happy to share with couples. Let one vendor lead you to another and know that when you support local small businesses, your wedding is making a real difference to those who are self-employed.

Tip 5. Stick to your budget
When setting your budget, it’s important to remember that 50% of your wedding expenses will be spent on food and drink for you and your guests. With this in mind you may want to consider a number of different catering options to assist with budget management.

Tip 6: Always ask
Don’t be afraid to ask your venue for those little extras at no extra cost, if you don’t ask, you don’t get, right? Most venues are happy to throw in something extra free of charge, whether that’s some music upon arrival, a free round of drinks for the toasts or a reduced price for guests staying at the hotel. Don’t feel shy about asking, wedding venues are well prepared for negotiations and will always be able to offer you something to secure your booking.

The Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny

The luxurious 4* Newpark Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Kilkenny City on over 30 acres of scenic parkland. Their award winning gardens are the perfect backdrop for any occasion, but really add something special to a wedding ceremony or reception. When it came to shooting our wedding video, the staff couldn’t be more accommodating and went out of their way to ensure there was ample opportunity and space for us to work our magic. The hotel offers a choice of suites and can cater for weddings of all sizes up to 320 seated guests. The main ballroom has it’s own private garden which is ideal for weddings in the mid-summer and works perfectly for those who wish to extend the celebrations to the outdoors.

On our last visit to the Newpark Hotel, our bride and groom could not have been happier with the level of service they received from the venue and we can certainly echo that sentiment.

Whether you require a venue for a reception only or wish to host your ceremony and celebrations all in one place, the Newpark Hotel is without doubt a dream venue.

Newpark Hotel Kilkenny
Mount Juliet Estate, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny

Just a short 20 minute drive from Kilkenny City, Mount Juliet Estate is probably one of the best-known names in hospitality in Ireland. For a luxury wedding with a difference, Mount Juliet is quiet often the number one choice for our fabulous brides and grooms.

Mount Juliet caters for wedding receptions, civil ceremonies and civil partnerships and is without doubt one of the most luxurious wedding venues in the country. On our last visit to Mount Juliet, our bride and groom had booked the Manor House in which to host their ceremony and celebrations. This venue provided us with the most perfect backdrop for filming their wedding video and meant that the couple and their guests had the exclusive use of the venue. What more could you ask for?

• Indoor and outdoor ceremonies catered for.
• Exclusive Manor House hire.
• 1,500 acres of parkland for you and your guests to explore.
• Two unique venues to choose from.

Naming the Tables at your Wedding

Over the past decade, the team here at Drangan Video have provided wedding video services to hundreds of brides and grooms across Ireland. We get to see the new trends in décor, watch some of the most amazing first dances and experience first hand the artistic ingenuity of our wonderful couples. In this article we’re going to talk about a growing trend that we think you can really have some fun with.

Wedding Videographer Tipperary

Gone are the days of simply numbering the tables at your wedding venue, more and more we are starting to see a strong trend towards naming tables… and we absolutely love it!

Think about the places, songs or movies that really hold a special place in your heart and then let your ideas flow as you begin to name your tables.

Destinations that are close to your heart:

Think of places that are special to you and your partner. Perhaps you met in a café in Dublin or holidayed in Paris, maybe your fiancé proposed to you in Rome? Tell your story through the cities and countries that shaped your relationship to date by naming your tables accordingly and perhaps providing a few lines about why this place is so special for you.

Important dates in your lives:

From the date you met to the date you became engaged and every date in between, let your guests share in your memories by naming each table after a special time in your life so far.

Movies that make you smile:

For the movie lovers out there, this is a really fun way to share your favourites with your family and friends. Whether you’re a lover of rom-coms or horror movies, this light-hearted way to name your tables will be a real icebreaker with your guests. Perhaps include some trivia about each movie to get your guests talking at the table?

Songs that make you tap your feet:

A song can trigger a thousand memories and never more so than when in the company of the people you love. Name your tables after songs that are going to appear in your set list a little later on or tunes that tell a story about your relationship.

A book lover’s paradise:

Perhaps you and your intended are real bookworms and want to share your favourite reads with your guests? Design table name cards that mimic book covers with quotes from the happy couple in the place of critic quotes. If you are a fan of a certain book series (think Harry Potter) you should have enough books to name every table!

Quotes with meaning:

Borrow the words of your heroes by using famous quotes to name your tables. Whether you opt for witty and humorous or topical and formal is totally up to you.

The places you love to visit together:

Whether it’s your Saturday trip to the local market, a restaurant you love to eat in or your local bar, name your tables after the places you feel most comfortable.

Work with nature:

Name your tables after your favourite flowers or herbs and use this opportunity to add to your table décor. A bunch of thyme at one table, a peony at another, the room will be smelling and looking wonderful!
