Top 2017 Honeymoon Destinations

In this blog post we are going to explore some of the wonderful honeymoon options that seem to be attracting brides and grooms throughout Europe and further afield. We would love to hear from any of our readers about any unusual destinations you can personally recommend, so please feel free to get in touch.

A honeymoon in the sun
A honeymoon in the sun

Picture this; you have just enjoyed the most fabulous wedding day surrounded by family and friends and now you are looking forward to taking some time out to celebrate this new exciting phase in your relationship. A honeymoon is a great chance for you to take a break together, relax after all that planning, celebrate your relationship and make memories that will last a lifetime. Planning your honeymoon can be a welcome distraction from the stress of wedding planning as this little treat is just for the two of you and you will no longer have to take into consideration the wants and needs of your guests.

Whether you are a lazing on the beach type, or a couple that’s after a refreshing city break, we’ve put together a list of some of the most sought-after honeymoon destinations for 2017, to help you decide where to celebrate the start of your new life together.

Italy

Both Venice and Rome are must-see romantic cities. Embody Audrey Hepburn at the Spanish steps or tick off clichés one by one as you glide along the canals in a Gondola. There is of course much more to Italy than these two bastions of culture, enjoy renaissance Italy at its finest in Florence, a fabulous place to visit if either you or your spouse is an Art History buff. Be inspired by beautiful Museums, wonderful architecture and master-works of sculpture.

Ireland & Great Britain

Although “staycation-ing” can be all the rage for the summer time, people don’t often think of it as an option for a honeymoon. Choosing a get-away in the UK or Ireland, can cut down on travel time, and give you a chance to discover a place together that you’ll be able to get back to easily. If you have an island escape on your minds, why not visit stunning Orkney in Scotland or the Aran Islands in Eire.

California

This wine rich region with absolutely superb scenery is a wonderful place to relax with your true love, sampling great cuisine and the wonderful vineyards in the region. A must see for those of you who really relish top-notch cuisine and exciting wines.

Greece

An island steeped in ancient culture and nestled in the Mediterranean. Santorini is particularly popular for honeymooners and we can honestly say it is a welcome retreat for any holidaymaker. This tiny island is filled with whitewashed villas, beautiful black-sand beaches and breath-taking hikes. Greece is particularly popular for couples that are looking for a mixed holiday as you can simply laze on a beach or take in the many historical sites, museums and architecture.

Barbados

If you’re looking forward to getting away from it all, an island getaway couldn’t be more perfect. Whilst not the most budget friendly destination, Barbados packages do come with a range of all inclusive options with most travel operators, so shop around and we’re sure you’ll find a package that offers great value. Barbados is a particularly romantic honeymoon destination where you can spend your time strolling hand in hand with your loved one or relax at poolside retreats that are as opulent as the brochures describe!

Thailand

A perfect beach getaway and an absolute holiday of a lifetime. We can highly recommend Koh Tao, which is filled with a host of beautiful beaches, amazing scenery and is a knockout destination for those who really want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Why not take a motorbike tour with your partner to find your favourite beach? Koh Tao an adult only resort filled with beautiful bamboo huts you so can enjoy the ultimate secluded escape.

What to Expect in 2017 – Wedding Trends, Colour Palettes and More

Hard to believe we are talking about 2017 wedding trends already, it seems like only yesterday that I was writing a similar article about 2016! As always when we start into January, we start looking ahead to our Spring and Summer bookings and this year is no different.

Are you getting married in 2017 or 2018? Would you like to explore some of the trends that are popular at the moment and see if they may be right for you? In this blog post I am going to briefly cover some trends that appear to be most popularly forecasted for 2017 and will go on to cover them in more detail in later post. If there are any trends you would like to know more about, please feel free to let us know and we will make sure to address them in 2017.

Paper, Paper, Everywhere!

It seems that our love for technology has not diminished our love for the more traditional things in life, and for that I am most grateful. This coming 2017 wedding season sees paper take centre stage once more, and we’re not just talking about your wedding stationery here! 2017 looks to put paper the forefront of wedding décor, everything from centrepieces to bouquets can all be crafted from craft paper, tissue and recycled materials. This is a trend we are delighted to see, and remember it can all be recycled so there’s no waste and let’s face it, paper is so very easy to source in a variety of finishes, weights and designs.

First Look Photographs and Videos

Whilst it does go against the tradition of not seeing the bride before the wedding, first look photo’s and videos are becoming increasingly popular amongst Irish couples. That wonderful moment when you first clap eyes on each other before your wedding can be one of the most beautiful and emotional images you can take on your wedding day. For more information on first look photography and videography, see our recent blog post, which explains all you need to know.

Wedding Apps

This year has seen the removal of the disposable camera from tables up and down the country. This tradition had lasted even longer than we anticipated considering everyone has their own camera in their pocket these days. However, we are now seeing an upsurge in wedding apps, which allow your guests to take photos on their phone and upload them to your very own wedding album. Check out our favourite wedding app wedpics to see how you can involve your wedding guests in making your day all that more special.

Rose Gold, Ruffles and Romance

2017 sees the return of romantic colours such as peach, dusky rose, rose gold and rich cream to the wedding palette. We absolutely love these colours and they look exceptionally well in photos and video on the big day. We also see more romantic trends returning such as ruffles, lace, corsages and headpieces of feather and pearl.

Over the coming months we will be further exploring 2017 wedding trends and we would absolutely love to hear from any of our potential brides and grooms with any tips they might have.

What We Loved About Irish Weddings in 2016

Well, here we are facing into the last weeks of 2016 and looking forward already to our spring and summer weddings in 2017. This year has seen an abundance of new trends for Irish Brides and Grooms, many of which are likely to continue right through to 2017. In this blog post I would like to talk about some of the more eye-catching and unique trends I have noticed over the past 12 months and perhaps inspire you and your intended with some ideas for your upcoming nuptials.

Home-made Wedding Decor

Over the past year we have been blessed to video the most wonderful weddings up and down the country. What we noticed more and more as the month’s flew by was that Brides and Grooms were becoming more adventurous with the DIY aspect of their wedding décor. Some of the wonderful home-made touches we were lucky enough to enjoy included:

  • DIY Table centrepieces’,
  • Homemade wedding invitations,
  • Hand drawn place settings,
  • Twinkle lights and seasonal décor brought to new life by creative couples.

Alternative Wedding Suppliers

We have also seen an influx of new and exciting service providers, meaning the traditional aspects of a wedding ceremony are now not the only things to look forward to for guests and family.

  • Sweet Carts – stocked with wonderfully colourful candy and customised sweet jars and cups for guests to take away as a memento of the big day.
  • Make your own Tayto sandwich stand – without doubt one of the most impressive stands I’ve seen. Each guest could take away a pack that included bread, butter, plastic knife and of course a packet of cheese and onion Taytos. We were assured that this went down very well with all guests who were only too happy to have a quick and easy snack the morning after the festivities.
  • Bouncy castles, portable playgrounds and kids entertainment the likes of which we had never witnessed before. These extra touches go a long way for the little ones attending your big day and mean that the parents can relax without wondering if the festivities are a little too much for their child.

Alternative Wedding Guestbooks

There has also been some fabulously creative alternatives to the traditional guestbook

  • Wedding guestbook frames – write your message to the bride and groom on a little wooden heart and pop it into the frame provided through a little slot on the top. A wonderful keepsake for the Bride and Groom and something that will have them thinking of their wedding day for years to come.
  • Fingerprint wedding guestbook. Instead of writing on a traditional guest book, guests dip their finger or thumb in some paint or ink and stamp it on the canvas provided, along with their initials or a little note.
  • Christmas baubles – One wedding we worked at last Christmas, gave each of their guests a plain Christmas tree bauble along with a silver/gold pen and asked guests to write their names and hang it on the tree in the reception venue. A beautiful sight at the end of the night!
