Buying an Engagement Ring Online

If you or your loved are planning to pop the question over the next few months and finding it difficult to purchase the perfect engagement ring due to the closure of local jewellers, we have a guide that will assist you in making this purchase online.

Wedding Videographer Kilkenny and Tipperary

Here at Drangan Video, we have been providing wedding videography services across Tipperary, Kilkenny and just about every other county in Ireland for over 25 years. We know how important it is for our couples to celebrate in style and that starts with the all-important engagement ring. Regardless of your budget, you will find that online jewellers can offer a true wealth of choice during a time when you can’t go and browse in the traditional manner. Here are our tips for the safe purchase of your ring online.

Buying  Engagement Rings Online

Check the Security of the Website:

All websites that sell items or services online are now required to display an SSL certificate. You can check this by simply looking at the website address. If the website begins with HTTPS then you have a secure site. If it begins with the old format of HTTP then there is no security cert in place on the website.

Conduct Reputation Research:

As always, when shopping online it’s always important to ensure you are dealing with a reputable seller, this is never more important than when you’re making one of the most important purchases of your life.
• Check independent online reviews. Look through social media accounts related to the seller, check their online reviews and look for any red flags with regards to late delivery, quality or sizing.
• Check out the certification of the online store. You will want to know that any diamonds are ethically sourced and that best trading practices are adhered to.
• Make sure the store has in-depth contact details such as business address, contact phone number and email address. If the contact page does not have these details and features only a contact form, we would recommend trying another website.

Read the Small Print:

Whilst it may be a tedious job, you will really need to read through their terms and conditions to ensure you are covered in all instances. In instances where you are purchasing a custom design or a ‘made to order’ engagement ring, you may not be able to avail of EU purchasing rights, so ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable before making a purchase.

Ask for Samples of their Work:

Whilst you may not be able to see the ring itself before you purchase, you can ask the seller to send you photographs and videos of sample products. Videos will give you a much better idea; so don’t be afraid to request them from your online store.

Make your Payment with Debit or Credit Card Only:

All major credit card and debit card providers will offer you great levels of protection on purchases made online. They also allow you to have an easily traceable line of purchase if you ever need to raise a dispute or request a refund. Do NOT pay by online transfer or with bank drafts/postal orders. Check your online statement and transactions as soon as payment has been made to ensure everything is in order.

In this blog post we are going to stray somewhat from our normal wedding themed blog posts and use our experience as wedding videographers in Kilkenny and Tipperary to share with you some walks you can take during your daily exercise. Remember that you can only take these walks if they are no further than 2km from your home and always strictly follow government guidelines.

Videographer Kilkenny

Over the past 25 years, the team here at Drangan Video have been blessed to capture hundreds of weddings in Tipperary and Kilkenny. This experience has given us a real in-depth knowledge of the local area and the wonderful walks and trails that can be found in both rural and urban settings.

 Short Walks in Kilkenny

Jenkinstown Walk – A Coillte Amenity.

Situated just outside Kilkenny city centre is the walled garden loop of Jenkinstown walk. According to the Coillte website, their parks and woodlands remain open for pedestrians only and all car parks are closed. This measure has been taken to ensure citizens who live within 2km of the amenity can use the facility while adhering to current guidelines. Take a stroll through this wonderful trail and let your worries drift away. The greenery, flora and fauna that is in abundance in this wonderful setting makes this the perfect place for your daily walk.

Tory Hill, Mullinavat

When you are partaking in individual exercise over the next few weeks, we can wholly recommend Tory Hill for its breath-taking scenery and woodland tracks. The views from the top of Tory Hill will clear the head and offer superb photography opportunities.

 Short Walks in Tipperary

Dun Ui Faoiain Loop

The Dun Ui Faolain Loop is another wonderful Coillte amenity that can be enjoyed when undertaking your individual exercise or with children from your household in this fabulous weather. Please do note that all car parks at Coillte amenities are closed, so only take this walk if it is within 2kms of your home. The loop walk in Dun Ui Faolain takes you through Glenbawn Wood, along the banks of the Suir and is an easy stroll for those who may not be acclimatised to regular exercise.

Another wonderful Coillte site situated ion the banks of the Burncourt River. Enjoy the incredible selection of specimen trees that include Monterey Cypress, Giant Sequoia and Bhutan Pine.

Questions you need to ask your wedding venue

So you have finally set the date for your big day and are busy making a  list of your  wedding suppliers, choosing a venue is one of the most important decisions that you will have to make.
In the following blog post I have made a list of important questions that you will need to ask your wedding venue

Wedding Venue Kilkenny

Questions you need to ask your wedding venue

Choosing and booking your perfect wedding venue is absolutely the most important part of the wedding planning process and quite often we overlook some of the most important questions we should be asking. For those of you who are yet to book a venue and need a little assistance with making a decision, please read on and use this article as a source of information when interviewing possible venues for your big day.

The two most important questions are the ones you will need the answer to straight away – so you can disregard some venues immediately.
1. Can they accommodate your wedding ceremony or reception on your chosen date?

  1. What is the capacity of the venue; can they accommodate the numbers you are hoping will attend?

Once the above questions have been answered to your satisfaction, it’s now time to move on to the nitty gritty, feel free to pick and choose from the questions we have listed below in order to get all the information you require.

  1. Will the venue provide you with a wedding coordinator or events manager to deal with throughout your planning? If yes, get a name and contact details.
  1. Will there be any other weddings in that hotel or venue on the same day? If so, will this have any impact on the smooth operation of your big day?
  1. Are they willing to negotiate on pricing? Some venues will throw in some extras free of charge; so don’t be afraid to barter! If you are planning a mid-week wedding, then you have every opportunity to make some great savings.
  1. Are there any building works or renovations currently being done in the hotel? If so, will these works be completed by the date of your wedding and can they guarantee this? If you are dealing with a venue that does have building works or renovations going on, it would be advisable to get something in writing that states how this will or will not impact on your day. If the venue has promised to have works competed before the date, get this in writing also.
  1. What is included in the package price? Get down to the smallest items here to make sure you are getting value for money. Little items like corkage, free teas and coffees and welcoming drinks will make all the difference to your pocket.
  1. Will the venue provide a special rate for your guest’s accommodation? Don’t take the first price your venue offers you for accommodation, most hotels can afford to give a significant discount for mid-week weddings, as the hotel would otherwise be quiet.
  1. What is the layout of the room? Can it be changed to suit your preferences?
  1. Are you welcome to bring in outside service providers? Perhaps you’re having a mid-summer wedding and you want to hire an ice-cream van or maybe you’re planning a magic show for the kiddies? This will all need to be discussed in advance. Are you welcome to bring in props and décor items?
  1. Will the hotel offer free Wi-Fi for all of your guests?
  1. How late will the bar be open, can you apply for an extension and will this cost extra? Are your guests welcome to use the resident’s bar at the end of the night?
  1. What are the facilities at the hotel? Are there elevators for elderly guests, do you have wheelchair access? Is there a suitable smoking area for your guests?
  1. Will the venue cater for different dietary requirements? Will this cost extra?
  1. Will the hotel give guests a later checkout time free of charge? (If required.)

The questions listed above are just some of the most important things you should be asking your venue. If you find that some of the answers are not what you expected, then perhaps you can negotiate on price. This checklist, should in any case give you a sound basis for choosing the perfect wedding venue.

The Maid of Honours Role in the Big Day

As the Maid of Honour on your friend’s big day, it will be your responsibility to ensure the Bride wants for nothing and is totally oblivious to any panic that may be going on in the background. In this article we look at how you can take your Maid of Honour duties to the next level and have guests and family marvelling at your calm demeanour and precise organizational skills. You may be panicking on the inside, but by following the tips below you can be assured of a trouble-free day!

1. In the weeks leading up to the big day, take it upon yourself to make a personal phone call to each of the bridal suppliers, include the videographer, the photographer, florist, ceremony venue and reception venue and leave them with your number. This will take great pressure off the Bride and will ensure you are kept up to date on any last minute changes that may occur.

2. Also make sure to extend a phone call to each member of the bridal party, including but not limited to the groomsman, bridesmaids, ushers and parents of any children who may be partaking in the wedding ceremony. Make it clear that if anyone needs anything in the lead up to the big day or if anyone has any questions, that they can contact you directly.

3. Regularly check in with the Bride to see if she needs assistance with any last minute plans and assure her that you can take up any challenge that may arise. After all you are there to make sure her day goes as smoothly as possible!

The day itself is going to be busy and you will need your wits about you to ensure everything goes as planned. Don’t sweat the small stuff and know that you can’t plan for every eventuality; some surprises will happen that goes without saying and some may even add to the happiness of the day! That said, here are some useful tips that you can keep in your armoury:

4. Wedding Day Appointments – By having a clear itinerary made out in advance you can ensure that all members of the bridal party can keep to their appointments on the morning of the wedding. Perhaps you can organize transport to and from the hairdressers if necessary or arrange a timeline for each of the bridesmaids to have their make-up done. A schedule will help not just the bridal party but also the professionals providing the services on the morning.

5. Make sure everyone gets a good breakfast! Now, we’re not suggesting for a moment that you should don your apron and cook up a feast for such a large gathering; however, it may be advisable to organize someone else who can do this for you on the morning of the wedding. It’s going to be a long day and will most likely be the evening before you all sit down to enjoy a meal. A good breakfast will set you all up for the day and will allay any crankiness that may come with hunger pangs!

6. Carry an emergency kit in your clutch or handbag – we can’t stress this enough! The emergency kit can include:
• Clear nail varnish
• Sewing needle
• Thread
• Plasters
• Deodorant
• Tights
• Small scissors

In the lead up to the big day there will of course be so much more for you to do, the great thing about the wedding day itself is that all the plans have already been made and confirmed and you can relax and enjoy the day with your very best friend. Let her know that you are at her beck and call and that you are willing and excited to help out in any way you possibly can. By the time the evening comes around you will be able to party like everyone else and pat yourself on the back for a job very well done indeed!

Many couples only decide on hiring a videographer when all other wedding suppliers have been booked,  they may be at a friends wedding  and realize that the wedding is been filmed prompting the though “should we have a video” then they might look at some wedding videos on line or on  a website which will enhance the idea of having their big day on film.  Here at Drangan Video we find that the majority of couples are now booking our services at least 12 months in advance.

Photos are a smashing memory of a wedding day and are a must for every couple – but having the memories  on film is totally different. Moving pictures speak a thousand words, hearing your vows, the speeches and messages from guests, walking up the aisle with your dad, interacting with family and friends, the first dance are just some of the magical moments that will look beautiful on video.

If you are undecided about having a videographer my advice is make up your mind and go for it. Photos will always be there and will never go out of fashion. Just imagine having video footage of your parents or grandparents getting married  it would be a treasure  and personally I would love to have it.

Gone are the 3 hour wedding videos that were challenging to sit through without falling asleep, there are fantastic edit and presentation options available. Most full time professional videographers will offer a short edit version of your wedding film, full of magical moments from your day, they will also offer to share highlight video clips on line for sharing with family and friends who are  in distant parts of the world.

A general comment from couples is “the day just flew”  after all the months of planning and budgeting the long awaited big day was over in a flash. Couples never regret having the opportunity to relive their special day in the comfort of their own home.  The video night is a lovely occasion for the couple to relive their wedding day over a bottle of wine and experience all the happy and romantic emotions that are part of every wedding day.

Here at Drangan Video we always include messages   from wedding guests on every wedding film production, as the day flies by the Bride and groom may not get a chance to chat to all uncles, aunties and relatives, just imagine watching your your wedding video and hearing them talking about how beautiful the bride looked and what a fantastic day it was, they also might share a funny little childhood story.  Messages from the flower-girls and pageboys is just so special, imagine looking back on that 10 years later.

Hiring the right videographer is a pretty easy task, its just a matter of checking out their website and facebook page to view the sample videos, you can check out numerous wedding videographers from the comfort of your home, when you see samples that you really like and are moved by and if the the price is right then you are ready to hire that particular videographer. Easy as Pie !!

If you choose the right videographer you will never regret it, the happiest day of your life captured on a wedding film forever.
