Civil Ceremonies v Church Weddings Making your decision

In Ireland today, we are blessed to have a wealth of options when it comes to choosing a venue for the most important day in any couples life. Whether you are religious or not, there are a several options available to you right across the country.

In this article we are going to speak about the differences between civil and church weddings in Ireland and hopefully provide you with enough information to make that all-important decision.

Civil Wedding Ceremony in Kilkenny

The main difference between a church wedding and a civil ceremony is of course religion. If as a practicing catholic, it is important to you to wed in a church, then this will no doubt be the deciding factor. When you marry in a church, you are married in the eyes of God, in a civil ceremony you are married in the eyes of the law. Both ceremonies are recognised by the state and are legally binding provided that your celebrant is recognised and registered to perform a legal ceremony.

The Church Wedding

When marrying in a church, temple or other religious building, there will be certain conventions that you will have to comply with:

• Catholic ceremonies require you to undertake a pre-marriage course prior to exchanging your vows.
• You will need to have been baptised and confirmed if marrying in a catholic church.
• If you live outside the parish you are marrying in, you will require a letter of freedom from your previous parishes to confirm you are in fact free to marry.
• Interchurch and interfaith marriages may need further permissions, so it is vital that you speak with your priest about this prior to making any arrangements.
• The bride and groom will be required to fill out a pre-nuptial form for church records. This is not state documentation and is for church use only.
• It is up to you to register the marriage.

The Civil Ceremony

• Civil ceremonies in Ireland only take place from Monday to Friday.
• There may be additional fees associated with the wedding if you wish to have the ceremony outside a registry office (in a hotel or registered venue).
• 3 Months notification is required.
• Irish legislation states that the venue must be open to the public, either a building that is used and accessible to the public or an open space.
• The registrar will register the marriage for you.

Winter Fairytale Wedding Tipperary

In this week’s wedding blog I am delighted and proud to be sharing  the wedding of Susan Tannock who is from Australia and Chris Bracken from Littleton, Thurles  who were marring in Holy Cross Abbey Tipperary  on December 30th 2017, the happy couple enjoyed a splendid wedding reception in the ever  popular Anner Hotel. The town of Thurles  is the home of the GAA and has hosted many big match days in Semple Stadium but none  more  important as Chris and Susan’s love match.

Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny  more and more couples are opting for off season  weddings ,   Winter can be a romantic time of year with  fairy lights and the  excitement of Christmas  in the air.
when  planning  a summer wedding  you are feeling confident about  the weather but let’s  not forget it is Ireland after all. In winter, although its  certain that there will be no heat, or sun  at least you know what to expect  and won’t get caught out.

Chris and Susan’s Winter Fairytale Wedding

The  Anner Hotel is situated just outside Thurles on the Two-Mile Borris  road,  resting on its own  private grounds with  tastefully kept  gardens and pathways.  Over the years the  four star  hotel   has increased in size offering a host of modern amenities, it is now one of the top wedding venues catering for Tipperary and Kilkenny wedding receptions. Chris and Susan’s wedding video story began at 10:30 in the hotel wedding suite  with coverage of the bridal preps.  December 30th was a very cold day  a rather  big shock for the Aussies who were leaving  their sunny warm summer behind,  the pressure of preparations did help to  keep  temperatures  rising for the girls.

Happy Wedding Video Holy Cross Abbey Thurles Tipperary

Holy Cross Abbey wast the couple’s choice of wedding ceremony location,  the beautifully restored Monastic site and Church from the 12th century  looked stunning in the low angled  December sunshine.  The Abbey is a working church  it is a popular location for  wedding ceremonies  it is steeped in history  if those walls could only speak of times gone by ? the aisle has a natural  slope towards the altar to help you tie the knot!

Susan her Dad and  the girls arrived  on time in a beautifully restored VW camper Van, the rumble of the German engineered engine was certainly  a step back in time for the older guests, there is something special about a colorful  wedding camper van, a couple of quick photos of Susan and her Dad then it was time to begin the long  walk  up the aisle to take Chris’s hand in matrimony .
The church was lovely and warm due to the recently installed underfloor heating providing a welcome break from a biting winter chill.

Choosing your Rings without Breaking the Bank

In general, we write a lot of our blog posts for couples who are in the process of planning their weddings, however, on this occasion we would like to dedicate a piece to those who are hoping to get engaged in the near future. Over the years in the wedding videography business, we have spoken to brides and grooms in all corners of the country, Cork, Tipperary, Dublin, Kilkenny… the list goes on, and during this time have come across many couples that have to save for years to afford an engagement ring, let alone a wedding. All of these brides and grooms had one thing in common – if they could have saved money on their engagement and wedding rings, they would happily have done so in order to put the savings towards the big day itself.

With this in mind we have developed a list of tips that may help you to purchase the engagement ring of your dreams without spending a fortune or finding yourself in debt.

1. Diamonds with slight flaws or as they’re known in the industry ‘inclusions’ will cost significantly less than those that are considered the ‘perfect diamond’. To the naked eye or to anyone who is not a diamond expert, these rocks look just as magnificent and will certainly help you to make a saving.
2. Cluster diamonds, which are many small diamonds arranged together, could cost significantly less than one large solitaire diamond and look incredible without breaking the bank.
3. Diamonds of less than 1 carat will always bring down the price, however can look just as impressive and special with the right ring setting.
4. When choosing the metal for your ring, opt for a lower karat grade. Perhaps consider 14k gold over 18k gold for a large saving without sacrificing any quality. Silver and white gold are also excellent options.
5. Buy your diamond ring online. There has never been a better time to shop for wedding jewellery online, with a wealth of styles, cuts and colours to choose from, you can be sure you will find a ring you love and still keep some extra money in your pocket to put towards the big day.
6. For those of you who aren’t keen on diamonds, try some of the more unusual stones on offer such as emeralds, opals, ruby or amber stone.
7. If you’re looking for the appearance of a diamond without the cost normally associated, check out some of the cubic zirconia options that are available in most jewellers in Ireland.
8. Buy your diamonds separately from the ring. We hear more and more from our brides and grooms that they have sourced their diamonds online or on holiday abroad and had them mounted on a customised band in their local jewellers. A great way to save some hard earned cash!

Don’t Sacrifice Videography on your Big Day

As a professional wedding videographer, you might very well think I’m chancing my arm by saying you shouldn’t sacrifice wedding videography on your big day! I can assure you that this is not the case, I know only too well that a couple on a budget need to watch their spending and 100% realise that not everyone can afford all the frills and extras that are associated with weddings in Ireland today.

Over the past decade I have had the pleasure of providing wedding videography services to couples in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Dublin, Cork and Galway to name but a few, and I am always delighted to get feedback that assures me of the importance of a wedding video after the big day has passed.

Wedding Videography  in Tipperary and Kilkenny

Most couples in Ireland need to save for years to come anywhere close to affording a wedding, particularly for the reception, music and food costs. In the majority of cases, brides and grooms will sit down and make out a realistic budget and try to stick to it. In some cases, this budget simply may not allow them to enjoy all the services that are on offer today and in a lot of cases, videography is one of the first things that come off the wish list. However, after speaking with brides and grooms after their weddings, it seems to be one of their greatest regrets. Why spend all that money and never get to look back and enjoy the moment again?

This is why the team here at Drangan Video have developed wedding videography packages to suit absolutely every budget. We don’t mind where you’re based in the country and we will never charge you more to get to your chosen venue. All the extras are included in our packages so you will never be hit with any hidden costs, and I can assure you that having your wedding memories on hand to watch whenever you like will be one of the best decisions you could possible make.

• All wedding videography is provided by Eamon, decades of experience in an industry that tends to have new service providers popping up every day.
• 1000’s of satisfied customers up and down the country.
• If you have a strict budget, we are happy to talk with you and get those costs down, while still providing a top-notch service.

Bridesmaids helping beautiful Tipperary Bride

At a time when we are busy planning the details of our big day, it can be easy to forget those who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. If you are lucky enough to have a group of ladies by your side that would do absolutely anything for you and your intended, it would be a lovely idea to thank them in a way that lets them know just how cherished they are.

Jewellery

Nothing says it quite as well as jewellery does, however, this can be quite expensive if you have more than one or two bridesmaids, so don’t be afraid to pick up something that doesn’t cost the earth, moon and stars!

Whether you opt for a classic neckpiece, some pearl earrings or a charm bracelet the time you have taken to choose something special for your bridesmaids will let them know how appreciated they are.

Pamper them

It’s going to be a busy few months for your bridesmaids in the lead up to the big day and we’re pretty sure that a spa treatment or two will help get the girls back into the full swing of things. Book your bridesmaids a spa treatment or let them choose their own with a voucher for a luxury spa in your area. You can be guaranteed they’ll deserve to have a day that’s all about them once the big day has passed.

Make it Personal

If you have the opportunity to personalise a gift with a note or an inscription this will make a wonderful keepsake for your bridesmaids. It’s important these special women in your life know just how much they mean to you and how much you appreciate all the help they’ve given you when preparing for the wedding.

Throw them a ‘Thank You’ Party

A gift needn’t be something material; by organising an event especially for them you can tell the world how lucky you are to have them in your life. Host a small party in your home or treat the girls to some afternoon tea. Celebrate the fact that you will always be thankful for the support they have given you during this very special time. You could have a viewing of your wedding video and point out to them all the things you are thankful for!
