The Cashel Palace Hotel

In June of 2017 we learned that the historic Cashel Palace Hotel was to undergo redevelopment under the investment of the Magnier Family (of Coolmore Stud) and Teo Ah King a Chinese business tycoon. This announcement was welcomed throughout the county of Tipperary and will be a huge boost to the local economy and wedding industry. For those of you who have recently gotten engaged and are hoping to celebrate your big day in 5* luxury, we imagine the Cashel Palace Hotel will be THE venue that ticks all the boxes.

Cashel Palace Hotel New Wedding Venue

According to latest reports, the hotel is set to reopen in late 2019, this may seem like a long wait, but I’d put money on the fact that it will be worth it!

The plans for the hotel include 60 luxuriously appointed bedrooms, 2 onsite restaurants, a hotel bar, world class leisure centre and of course a function room that will no doubt play host to the most wonderful celebrations this country has ever seen. The project also looks to reinstate the renowned ‘Bishops Walk’ and will include a 3-acre town park, which we are really excited to learn more about.

About the site:
The Palace itself was originally built in the 1730’s and features a breath-taking Queen Anne and early Georgian architectural design. Before they moved to Waterford, the building was initially the home of the Church of Ireland Archbishops. Cashel Palace is situated on a 25-acre site and the grounds lie adjacent to the world famous Rock of Cashel which, can be accessed from the hotel grounds via one of the private gardens.

The hotel ceased trading in 2014 and was purchased by John Magnier in 2016 for 2.25 million Euros. The original resort consisted of the Bolton Library, the coach house and a gate lodge and we really can’t wait to see how these have been preserved to fit in with the new renovations.

Famous Faces at the Cashel Palace Hotel.

Over the decades, the Cashel Palace has played host to some of Hollywood’s elite as well as US dignitaries, world leaders and politicians. Some of the most notable visits were by Ronald Reagan, Richard Burton, Jacqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor. The hotels’ association with excellence has always been its selling point and we have no doubt that they will strive to keep with this tradition in the future.

Is Wedding Insurance Worth it?

In this wedding blog post we are having a look at the idea setting  up wedding insurance,  most couples will agree  that its not the most glamorous part of wedding planning,  wedding insurance  might seem like an  unnecessary cost  but what happens if something  goes wrong on the most important day of your life, so is wedding insurance worth it ?

Wedding Video Tipperary

Over the past number of years, we have heard ‘wedding insurance’ mentioned a number of times by our wonderful brides and grooms. Some wonder if it is worth the cost, others are very grateful that they did take out a policy, because of unforeseen circumstances on the day. With this in mind we have taken an in-depth look at some of the wedding insurance policies offered in Ireland and hope you find this information useful when it comes to deciding if wedding insurance is right for you. Please note we have just researched companies that offer insurance cover for weddings taking place in Ireland, these do not cover weddings abroad.

Who provides wedding insurance in Ireland?

From our research we have found that quite a lot of mainstream insurance providers will also provide cover for weddings. However, their policies do vary massively so in our opinion it’s worth going with a dedicated wedding insurer. It’s also worth checking with your existing home insurance provider to see if they can offer you any cover and whether a discount can be offered to existing customers.

The main dedicated wedding insurance providers in Ireland appear to be:

• Weddinginsurance.ie
Irishweddinginsurance.ie
Weddingcover.ie

Mainstream providers who have also appeared in our searches:

• Sheridan.ie
Insure4less.ie
Blueinsurance.ie

How much does wedding insurance cost?

From our research we have found that wedding insurance is a once off payment ranging from €34 right up to €145. The higher the premium, the higher the maximum payment is for a cancellation on your big day.

What does the policy cover?

Most policies that we have researched will cover cancellation of venues, suppliers, gifts, personal liability, cars and transport, accidents, legal expenses and smaller items such as rings, flowers and cakes.

Optional extras are also available on most policies and these can cover marquee damage or cancellation and public liability cover.

So is it worth it?

For such a small payment, I do think taking out an insurance policy to cover all eventualities would certainly be worth it. When we think of the amount of organisation and the years of savings that go into planning a wedding, the premium prices we have found online are extremely minimal. That said, in a lot of cases, insurance cover may not be required; all hotels and venues will have their own insurance policies in place to cover all persons attending the venue. Suppliers should also have their own insurance policies which should ensure you are covered in the event of a no-show, double booking or substandard service or product.

Wedding Planning Tipperary

Our advice: Speak with each and every supplier and venue and ask them about their insurance policy, feel free to ask for something in writing if this will make you feel more comfortable. If you still feel that you need extra insurance cover after talking with your vendors, then you will find a host of Irish insurance companies that will tailor a package for your requirements.

Don’t Sacrifice Videography on your Big Day

As a professional wedding videographer, you might very well think I’m chancing my arm by saying you shouldn’t sacrifice wedding videography on your big day! I can assure you that this is not the case, I know only too well that a couple on a budget need to watch their spending and 100% realise that not everyone can afford all the frills and extras that are associated with weddings in Ireland today.

Over the past decade I have had the pleasure of providing wedding videography services to couples in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Dublin, Cork and Galway to name but a few, and I am always delighted to get feedback that assures me of the importance of a wedding video after the big day has passed.

Wedding Videography  in Tipperary and Kilkenny

Most couples in Ireland need to save for years to come anywhere close to affording a wedding, particularly for the reception, music and food costs. In the majority of cases, brides and grooms will sit down and make out a realistic budget and try to stick to it. In some cases, this budget simply may not allow them to enjoy all the services that are on offer today and in a lot of cases, videography is one of the first things that come off the wish list. However, after speaking with brides and grooms after their weddings, it seems to be one of their greatest regrets. Why spend all that money and never get to look back and enjoy the moment again?

This is why the team here at Drangan Video have developed wedding videography packages to suit absolutely every budget. We don’t mind where you’re based in the country and we will never charge you more to get to your chosen venue. All the extras are included in our packages so you will never be hit with any hidden costs, and I can assure you that having your wedding memories on hand to watch whenever you like will be one of the best decisions you could possible make.

• All wedding videography is provided by Eamon, decades of experience in an industry that tends to have new service providers popping up every day.
• 1000’s of satisfied customers up and down the country.

Planning A Wedding that Supports a Good Cause

Drangan Video offers wedding videography services up and down the country and we love nothing better than seeing a bride and groom doing something completely different. Most recently, we had the pleasure of filming a wedding video in Cork where the couple donated funds to a charity close to their hearts in lieu of wedding favours. This is the type of action that really shows how a wedding can support a good cause. In the following blog post we are going to list some other ways you can use your wedding to support a charity or cause of your choosing.

Host your wedding party at a non-profit venue

What a way to make a contribution that will make a difference! By renting a venue owned by a non-profit organisation, you will make an incredible difference to the cause. The fee you pay for the rental of the hall or venue will be used to pay for a myriad of bills and could make a real difference to the charity or non-profit.

Recycle your Floral Arrangements

If you are lucky enough to have beautiful floral arrangements at your wedding, why not go that extra step and donate them to a local nursing home or charity? Your flowers will be uses to brighten up the space for residents in the following days and will no doubt bring some happiness to those who may need it most.

Donations in Place of Favours

For those of you who were hoping to purchase wedding favours for your guests, but really can’t decide on something that won’t be wasteful, why not opt for a charitable donation instead? Most Irish charities would be delighted to receive your donation and you can be sure it will make your guests smile on the day when they realise that a donation has been made in their name.

Request Charitable Donations instead of Gifts

If you are in a position to do so, and you should feel no pressure here, it may be an idea to ask your guests to make a donation to a charity of your choosing in place of a wedding gift. We find that many brides and grooms have a charity or cause that is close to their hearts, perhaps for personal reasons or because of the loss of a loved one. What better gift could you give than asking your guests to make a donation in lieu of a wedding present?

A Honeymoon with a Difference

Consider spending your honeymoon helping those less fortunate than yourselves. We have heard so many heart touching stories over the years from brides and grooms who have travelled to remote areas to assist with building projects or aide delivery. If you can make a difference and feel this would be the perfect way to begin life as a married couple, it’s certainly something that is worth checking out!

If you have any ideas on how else you could incorporate a good cause into your wedding day, we would absolutely love to hear from you. Feel free to contact me here at Drangan Video to ensure your heart-warming day is captured on video to share with friends and family.

How to Boost your Wedding Savings

In a time when the average couple in Ireland spends €25,000 on their wedding, this article is going to provide some tips on how you can boost your savings in the months and years leading up to the big day.

We’re all about making as many savings as possible and regularly write about money-saving ideas here on the blog, however, unfortunately there are still certain things that have to be paid for no matter how frugal or DIY savvy we are. It is with this in mind that we have compiled a list of ways to boost your savings, hopefully leaving you with a bit extra left over to enjoy a romantic honeymoon after the big event.

Wedding costs Kilkenny
Leave the Lattes – Saving of €1,560 a year

If like me, you’re quite partial to a coffee most days from the local barista or regularly head in to Starbucks on your way home from work, you could be costing yourself up to €30 a week! Over the space of a year this adds up to the considerable sum of €1,560… hard to believe right? Knock the coffee on the head and treat yourself to some roasted coffee you can make at home when you feel the need for that all-important caffeine hit.

Kick the Habit – Minimum saving of €3,590 a year

For those of you who smoke, don’t worry this isn’t going to be a lecture on why you should give up, you already know that too well. Let’s let the maths do the talking. The average full-time smoker will buy at minimum 6 packs of cigarettes a week, by todays prices that’s a staggering €70 a week, giving you a total of €3,590 a year. Just think what a difference that will make to your budget!

Take-away the urge – Saving of €800 + a year

Let’s assume you and your other half maybe get a take-away once every two weeks (that’s a fairly reserved assumption). At a spend of approximately €30 for each order, you could be looking at savings that total over €800 a year.

Stay in and count your money – Saving of €3,00 per person per year – Total €6,000
Whilst we all need to get out and socialise after a busy week at work, an individual who likes to go out once a week for a ‘few’ drinks can save upwards of €3,000 per year. By cutting down on the social outings as a couple for a few months or just reducing the amount of times you go out you could be adding a whopping total of €6,000 to your wedding day fund. Don’t go too crazy though, we all need to let loose once in a while and staying in indefinitely will have you going a little bit crazy!

Other cutbacks you and your partner can make in the lead-up to your big day, which should produce some significant savings:

• Cut down on unnecessary shopping trips
• Sell some of your unwanted goods or clothes on eBay
• Good at crafting? Set up an Etsy account and watch the money roll in!
• Shop for unbranded groceries
• Switch your banking to an account with less fees and higher interest rates
• Switch utility accounts such as gas and electric for more competitive prices
• Have an attic full of old books – sell these on Amazon
• Become a trader at your local car boot sale
• Have a spare room? Why not take in a lodger?

If you have any ideas to boost your savings in the lead up to your big day we would absolutely love to hear from you.
