Wedding Photography and Videography Checklist

In this blog post we are going to discuss the all-important checklist for the videography and photography on your wedding day. Whilst a professional videographer or photographer will always know exactly what moments to capture, it may helpful for you to compile a checklist beforehand to ensure you’re happy that every moment of your big day is being filmed or photographed.

Preparation Shots:

Some of the most intimate moments we capture for our brides and grooms are in the preparation stage. In the early morning or in the hours before the ceremony, the team here at Drangan video take time to capture those special moments that no one else gets to see. We would wholly recommend that you ask your photographer to be present at this time also.

• Bride, Maid of Honour and bridesmaids getting ready
• Family moments such as the family seeing the bride for the first time in all her finery.
• The wedding cars arriving.
• Filming well wishes with your neighbours and friends in the area.
• Groom, Best Man and groomsmen getting ready.
• Family shots in the home with both families.
• Pinning of the boutonnière between father/best man and son.

The Ceremony:

The ceremony is indeed the most important aspect of your big day and it’s great if your videographer and photographer can work in harmony to capture every moment.

• Guests arriving at the ceremony venue.
• Shots of the exterior and interior of the venue.
• Detailed shots of wedding booklets.
• Family members arriving and being seated by your ushers or grooms party.
• Father and bride making their way into the ceremony and down the aisle.
• Every moment of the ceremony.
• First kiss.
• Processional or exit from the ceremony venue.

The Reception:

Now that it’s time to celebrate, you can kick back and relax, dance, eat, drink and be merry while your photographer and wedding videographer capture every moment of the party.

• Interior and exterior shots of the reception venue.
• Guests signing guest book.
• The all important speeches.
• Cutting the cake.
• Your very first dance as a married couple.

It’s always a nice idea to capture the little things that make up the décor of your big day, so don’t feel shy to ask your photographer or videographer to take shots of the centrepieces, table plan, floral arrangements and wedding favours.

Is Wedding Insurance Worth it?

In this wedding blog post we are having a look at the idea setting  up wedding insurance,  most couples will agree  that its not the most glamorous part of wedding planning,  wedding insurance  might seem like an  unnecessary cost  but what happens if something  goes wrong on the most important day of your life, so is wedding insurance worth it ?

Wedding Video Tipperary

Over the past number of years, we have heard ‘wedding insurance’ mentioned a number of times by our wonderful brides and grooms. Some wonder if it is worth the cost, others are very grateful that they did take out a policy, because of unforeseen circumstances on the day. With this in mind we have taken an in-depth look at some of the wedding insurance policies offered in Ireland and hope you find this information useful when it comes to deciding if wedding insurance is right for you. Please note we have just researched companies that offer insurance cover for weddings taking place in Ireland, these do not cover weddings abroad.

Who provides wedding insurance in Ireland?

From our research we have found that quite a lot of mainstream insurance providers will also provide cover for weddings. However, their policies do vary massively so in our opinion it’s worth going with a dedicated wedding insurer. It’s also worth checking with your existing home insurance provider to see if they can offer you any cover and whether a discount can be offered to existing customers.

The main dedicated wedding insurance providers in Ireland appear to be:

• Weddinginsurance.ie
Irishweddinginsurance.ie
Weddingcover.ie

Mainstream providers who have also appeared in our searches:

• Sheridan.ie
Insure4less.ie
Blueinsurance.ie

How much does wedding insurance cost?

From our research we have found that wedding insurance is a once off payment ranging from €34 right up to €145. The higher the premium, the higher the maximum payment is for a cancellation on your big day.

What does the policy cover?

Most policies that we have researched will cover cancellation of venues, suppliers, gifts, personal liability, cars and transport, accidents, legal expenses and smaller items such as rings, flowers and cakes.

Optional extras are also available on most policies and these can cover marquee damage or cancellation and public liability cover.

So is it worth it?

For such a small payment, I do think taking out an insurance policy to cover all eventualities would certainly be worth it. When we think of the amount of organisation and the years of savings that go into planning a wedding, the premium prices we have found online are extremely minimal. That said, in a lot of cases, insurance cover may not be required; all hotels and venues will have their own insurance policies in place to cover all persons attending the venue. Suppliers should also have their own insurance policies which should ensure you are covered in the event of a no-show, double booking or substandard service or product.

Wedding Planning Tipperary

Our advice: Speak with each and every supplier and venue and ask them about their insurance policy, feel free to ask for something in writing if this will make you feel more comfortable. If you still feel that you need extra insurance cover after talking with your vendors, then you will find a host of Irish insurance companies that will tailor a package for your requirements.

Planning A Wedding that Supports a Good Cause

Drangan Video offers wedding videography services up and down the country and we love nothing better than seeing a bride and groom doing something completely different. Most recently, we had the pleasure of filming a wedding video in Cork where the couple donated funds to a charity close to their hearts in lieu of wedding favours. This is the type of action that really shows how a wedding can support a good cause. In the following blog post we are going to list some other ways you can use your wedding to support a charity or cause of your choosing.

Host your wedding party at a non-profit venue

What a way to make a contribution that will make a difference! By renting a venue owned by a non-profit organisation, you will make an incredible difference to the cause. The fee you pay for the rental of the hall or venue will be used to pay for a myriad of bills and could make a real difference to the charity or non-profit.

Wedding Flowers Cork Wedding Video
Recycle your Floral Arrangements

If you are lucky enough to have beautiful floral arrangements at your wedding, why not go that extra step and donate them to a local nursing home or charity? Your flowers will be uses to brighten up the space for residents in the following days and will no doubt bring some happiness to those who may need it most.

Donations in Place of Favours

For those of you who were hoping to purchase wedding favours for your guests, but really can’t decide on something that won’t be wasteful, why not opt for a charitable donation instead? Most Irish charities would be delighted to receive your donation and you can be sure it will make your guests smile on the day when they realise that a donation has been made in their name.

Request Charitable Donations instead of Gifts

If you are in a position to do so, and you should feel no pressure here, it may be an idea to ask your guests to make a donation to a charity of your choosing in place of a wedding gift. We find that many brides and grooms have a charity or cause that is close to their hearts, perhaps for personal reasons or because of the loss of a loved one. What better gift could you give than asking your guests to make a donation in lieu of a wedding present?

A Honeymoon with a Difference

Consider spending your honeymoon helping those less fortunate than yourselves. We have heard so many heart touching stories over the years from brides and grooms who have travelled to remote areas to assist with building projects or aide delivery. If you can make a difference and feel this would be the perfect way to begin life as a married couple, it’s certainly something that is worth checking out!

If you have any ideas on how else you could incorporate a good cause into your wedding day, we would absolutely love to hear from you. Feel free to contact me here at Drangan Video to ensure your heart-warming day is captured on video to share with friends and family.

Common worries on the lead up to your wedding day

Over the years we have had the opportunity to speak with countless brides and grooms on the lead up to their wedding day and we have come to recognise some of ‘silent worries’ than can make them lose sleep at night. You know the things I’m talking about, the drunken uncle, the invite etiquette, the seating arrangements, the speech….. the list goes on. These are common worries amongst brides and grooms, however, sometimes we are a little reluctant to speak about these concerns for fear of offending someone important to us. Below you will read some of the most common worries we have come to recognise and our tips on how you can combat these issues.

If you’re currently planning your wedding and worrying about how best to capture the big day on video, please feel free to give me a call here at Drangan Video and I will do everything in my power to put your mind at ease. I offer wedding videography in Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary and will travel to any small town or village in Ireland, no matter how remote. No need to worry with us!

Wedding Day worries

So let’s get started then…

Is it a bit rude to throw ourselves an engagement party? Should someone else host it for us?

Not at all! This is your celebration, so don’t worry about celebrating that in the way you feel most comfortable. Now if a family member or friend has suggested hosting it for you, by all means jump at this opportunity and accept their gracious offer. However, if you find that no one has offered and you would really like to throw a party to celebrate, you should absolutely go for it! Go big and throw yourselves a party to end all parties!

I want a small intimate wedding, but the in-laws have other ideas! I suppose I better go with what the family wants?

This is another common concern we hear about a lot. It is time for you to remember whose day this is……you and your new bride or groom. In-laws will have their input as will your own family no doubt, however, this should not in any way compromise the plans you want for your big day. When the day comes around, the family will recognise that it’s the two of you who matter most and extended family or friends will be happy to congratulate you at a later date. A compromise could be reached by hosting an intimate ceremony on one day with close family and friends and perhaps celebrating with a larger circle at a date in the not too distant future.

The best man is a great guy, but sometimes he likes to overindulge. I’m worried that the speech will be inappropriate!

This is a concern for many brides and grooms. The fear that the best man may have a few too many drinks before the speeches are made. Fret not… it’s actually very rare that this happens! Most best men will fully realise the importance of the big day and their role in making sure it runs as smoothly as possible. If you are really concerned, you could maybe drop a few hints or have someone take him aside for a quiet word.

Happy wedding guest
We have a tight budget for the reception, is it okay to invite people without including a +1?

Yes of course this is fine. If you arrange your seating plan carefully you can seat these guests with others who are attending by themselves. You may find that some guests will ask you directly if they can bring someone with them, if so, feel free to explain that you are keeping the number to a minimum but they are very welcome to bring them to the reception a little later in the evening when the meals and speeches have ended.

If you have any concerns that you are a bit too embarrassed or worried to address directly with a friend or family member, feel free to pop us a message and we will include it in our next blog post as a general anonymous concern. It may be the ideal way to get your message across without having to ever broach the subject!

Contact Drangan Video at any time for a no-obligation quotation for your wedding video. Whether you are based in Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary or Dublin, we will be happy to travel to the destination of your choice.

Simple Ways to Thank your Bridesmaids

As a professional wedding videographer, I see first hand just how much work goes into planning a wedding, and truly, no one does it quite as well as the Bridesmaids. Calm, cool and collected throughout, a thoughtful bridesmaid can really make a difference to how smoothly the planning process goes.

Bridesmaids helping beautiful Tipperary Bride

At a time when we are busy planning the details of our big day, it can be easy to forget those who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. If you are lucky enough to have a group of ladies by your side that would do absolutely anything for you and your intended, it would be a lovely idea to thank them in a way that lets them know just how cherished they are.

Jewellery

Nothing says it quite as well as jewellery does, however, this can be quite expensive if you have more than one or two bridesmaids, so don’t be afraid to pick up something that doesn’t cost the earth, moon and stars!

Whether you opt for a classic neckpiece, some pearl earrings or a charm bracelet the time you have taken to choose something special for your bridesmaids will let them know how appreciated they are.

Pamper them

It’s going to be a busy few months for your bridesmaids in the lead up to the big day and we’re pretty sure that a spa treatment or two will help get the girls back into the full swing of things. Book your bridesmaids a spa treatment or let them choose their own with a voucher for a luxury spa in your area. You can be guaranteed they’ll deserve to have a day that’s all about them once the big day has passed.

Make it Personal

If you have the opportunity to personalise a gift with a note or an inscription this will make a wonderful keepsake for your bridesmaids. It’s important these special women in your life know just how much they mean to you and how much you appreciate all the help they’ve given you when preparing for the wedding.

Throw them a ‘Thank You’ Party

A gift needn’t be something material; by organising an event especially for them you can tell the world how lucky you are to have them in your life. Host a small party in your home or treat the girls to some afternoon tea. Celebrate the fact that you will always be thankful for the support they have given you during this very special time. You could have a viewing of your wedding video and point out to them all the things you are thankful for!
