Getting your wedding videography right

Are you still  not sure about hiring  a wedding videographer, here at Drangan Video  we definitely  say yes  go for it, of course we would say that !!. We have been videographers for so many weddings in Tipperary, Klkenny, Waterford and though-out Ireland for more than 20years, we frequently meet couples who have used our videography service, they all agree that having a wedding video was the best decision they have ever made.

A Quality Wedding Video Is Worth Paying For

The price you pay for  videography  very much reflects the quality of the finished wedding film. Recording  a wedding day will take up to 12 hours hours, add another 2 days for post production, the average cost for a wedding film is anywhere between €1200 and €2500  bearing in mind the average cost of a wedding  dress is €1700  it might be worth considering hiring a  videographer to capture you in that dress on your big day

Wedding Videographer Killenny

Go with a  professional
Wedding videography is much more than just turning up and pointing a camera, it takes lots of experience and skill, It also involves just as much  work input as your photographer, so accepting an offer from a family friend or a video enthusiast might not be the perfect choice

Different styles of wedding videography

There are so many different styles of videography to choose from, take  your time to find a modern style that you really like. Professional videographers are constantly keeping up with latest trends,  think about how your video  may age over the next few years.  Many styles and trends have come and gone over the last 20 years, gone are the long boring 3 hour productions, now wedding films are much shorter with lots of short clips with a fast pace. It’s very  important that you do your own research first before meeting a videographer view examples of their work on their website, facebook and Instagram accounts, not just a showreel as they could be hiding the bad parts, find the style that you like and then book a videographer who can create your perfect wedding film.

Communication is key
Once you’ve found a videographer that you like and that is within your budget,  have a long conversation about your planning for the day and what you would exspect your wedding film to look and sound like.  It’s easy to get your wires crossed with mixed messages, now is the time to get it right might be to late when the day is over.

Be sure to ask how many cameras your videographer  will use on the day, here at Drangan Video we use a minimum of two cams there are no second chances for a second shoot of your wedding day. It also means that you’ll get get to view the day from different angles lending to a much more exciting production and needless to say better value for money

Getting your wedding video to sound right

When couples think about their wedding video, a beautiful colorful film immediately springs to mind,  what happens when you sit down to enjoy your wedding video, only to find that the  speeches are not clear due to background noise or your exchange of vows are barely audible, make sure that your videographer is using lots of external audio recorders, perfect sound is just as important as perfect picture.

Just in case backup plan
Ask  what happens if they’re unable to turn up on your big day due to sickness, do they have a backup plan or can get another professional to cover the day.
Discuss a delivery date for the final production, most professional videographers are very busy, so as a rule of thumb allow at least 6 weeks for delivery of your wedding film.

We have been living through strange times since the beginning of March so many industries in Ireland have been closed due to Covid restrictions, the wedding industry ground to a halt on March 13th so many couples having to postpone their wedding until later this year or next year. Now here we are  four Months later with  the future looking positive for a return to weddings very soon in Tipperary & Kilkenny

Mary and Seán’s Wedding Video Story

Mary & Seán tied the knot on October 26th 2019 it was a fab fun filled wedding day they were a lovely couple to work with, both so laid back and easygoing.

During the Irish  Famine the  Warhouse in Ballingarry Tipperary  was the location of the 1848 Rebellion. The house shows the history of the Irish  Famine, as I drove by the war house  on my way to Mary’s bridal preps my thoughts were  of how lucky I am  to be heading off to a carefree  happy event.
On arrival I captured nice aerial drone  shots of the hills of Ballingarry it was a very cold crisp morning,  I was glad to get indoors  the sounds of laughter chat and excitement coming from the house was heartwarming. I’ve been shooting weddings in Tipperary and Kilkenny for over 25 years,  all the experience  has been invaluable, the morning preps are a mood  barometer as to what kind of wedding we will have.  The barometer reading was high for this one,  the girls had their hair/makeup done  in Mary’s brother’s house then they set off on foot to Mary’s parents house a 4 minute walk down a winding country road a great opportunity for fun video shots.

Weddings In Holycross Abbey

Mary & Seán’s choice of wedding ceremony location was the beautifully restored Holycross Abbey in Tipperary  its also a  popular tourist attraction where visitors  can ring  the oldest church bell in Ireland it is more 750 years old.  Holy Cross Abbey is the number one choice for weddings ceremonies  in Tipperary.
Seán is a proud Holycross man he is well know in Tipperary GAA circles as a club  hurler and county supporter, the boys arrived early in good time to greet their guests as they made their way into the much needed  warmth of the church.
The aisle in the Holycross Abbey is quite a long walk in heels it was no problem for Mary,  she was in good hands as she made her way up with her brother Pat who handed her over to Seán in an emotional exchange. The ceremony was conducted by  Fr. Derry Quirke  from Ballingarry  he added  a personal touch to the ceremony by mentioning Mary’s late dad who would have been so proud to see his daughter saying yes to the love of her life Seán Comerford.

After the ceremony it was time that familiar joyful  walk down the aisle followed by a lengthy guest receiving line at the church door. Guests were not for hanging around for very long, the late October weather was a chilly a reminder that summer days or becoming a memory. It was a pleasure working with the wonderful  Katie Kavanagh for the photos her work is fun, candid and laid back, she did the bridal party photos around Holy Cross before heading off to the hotel.

Weddings In The County Arms Birr

Birr is one of Ireland’s best heritage towns  It’s most famous landmark, the  Castle Gardens & Science Center  attracts large numbers of  tourists annually, The Great Telescope is my personal favorite must see attraction.

The  County Arms Hotel was founded  by Michael & Margaret Loughnane in 1962 it  is  Offaly’s first four star Hotel.
The  walled Garden is a wedding videographer’s  dream for capturing romantic footage as couples take time out for a quite stroll through the perfectly manicured  gardens and yet  only a few yards from their wedding  guests.
The County Arms is a popular wedding reception location for Tipperary & Kilkenny couples.

It was an honor to have been Mary & Seán’s  videographer I’m   so proud to be sharing their wedding film is this week’s blog news story.

Wedding Videographer Kilkenny

With the onset of Covid 19 in Ireland back in March, many of our Tipperary/Kilenny couples had to postpone their weddings or reduce the numbers in attendance to adhere with health guidelines. This has been an incredibly stressful time for brides and grooms and we commend them on their resilience, optimism and determination to keep their families and guests safe during this time.

Now that there is light at the end of the tunnel, with the numbers decreasing day on day, couples who are planning their wedding now have a clearer picture of how their revised big day will look. We encourage our brides and grooms to contact us with any queries they might have and we very much look forward to capturing your special moments on video for you to share with family and friends.

Outdoor weddings in Kilkenny

Some pointers for planning your wedding in 2020:

• All wedding suppliers should have procedures in place that you can review prior to the big day. You should ask the vendor for a copy of these procedures/policies so that you can be assured they are taking the necessary precautions throughout the day.
• Speak to your venue about the numbers they can cater for and keep in mind that any numbers provided in current health guidelines will need to allow for staff at the venue.
• Ask your venue if they have an outdoor space you can use for the ceremony or reception. Currently, outdoor weddings and events can cater for larger groups of people, so this may be an option for those who do not want to reduce guest numbers.
• Should you be exchanging vows in a church or religious venue, speak to the priest or celebrant about seating for your guests. Can seating be arranged to accommodate social distancing between family groups?
• Guests coming from abroad may have trouble getting to the wedding due to travel restrictions or they simply may not feel comfortable about travelling just yet. Speak to these guests and reassure them that there is no pressure for them to travel.
• Organise a live stream of the event for those who may not be able to attend on the big day. The team here at Drangan Video can talk you through the process involved and provide a link for you to share with family and friends both at home and abroad.

Feeling Sad About Postponing Your Wedding

Covid 19 has played havoc with weddings here in  Ireland and around the world  so many  couples having  to postpone their wedding day.  If you are feeling depressed and  powerless  you’re not the only one.  In this blog post we have come with  a few  ideas to help you cope with the disappointment.

Feeling Depressed  About Postponing Your Wedding

From all here at Drangan Video we are so  sorry  that  your special day has been postponed  our thoughts are with you  A wedding is one of the biggest events in a couples life it binds two people together  for life.
Organizing  a wedding is an  emotional  time with a huge build to the big day  months of planning  and clever  financial  management are just the tip of the iceberg.  Then  having to  postpone and re-plan all over again  is  very difficult  to handle.

A wedding cancellation  is a huge life changing  event for a couple, but with everything that’s going on in the world over the past few months  if all your loved ones are healthy and well, you are still very lucky and all is not lost. When you’re  trying to come to terms  with having to postpone  your big day, you might also  be feeling guilty for not appreciating  what you do have, this is typical human reaction the most important thing you can do is to accept that you are allowed to feel sad.  We understand that  our brain reacts differently to certain emotions  that  inner voice might be saying this is the worst thing that has ever happened  I cannot cope with this terrible  news  it is not what I wanted.

It is natural to feel all of those emotions  each partner may experience them at  at different times or in different ways  just because they are not showing their emotions in the way that you are, it doesn’t mean they aren’t feeling them. Men do have a tendency to hide their feelings  where as  women like  to talk about and share their emotions. The worst thing you can do is tell your partner that they are overreacting, being oversensitive or taking things out of proportion, just  listen  and accept their point of view. You don’t have to fully agree  but acknowledge your partners point of view and tell them that they make sense.

Going forward think about the bigger picture, you are both healthy and well  you will get married, it’s  not at the time you had originally planned  but you have the rest of you lives to enjoy being married. Look to the future think about about the stories you can tell your children  years from now.  How you coped as a couple,  How  you worked together as a couple to overcome the challenge.   Some couples have been keeping a lock down diary to remind them of how they  got through this time with strength and resilience, just remember that its just one postponed day in your life  and your relationship is far more meaningful that that.

If you have already booked us as your wedding videographer and are concerned or thinking about moving you wedding to a new date, please feel free to contact Eamon here at Drangan Video for advice. Why hire a wedding videographer

Many couples struggle with the idea of having a wedding video, they see it as an unnecessary cost  here at Drangan Video we speak to couples who didn’t have a videographer on their big day, many say it’s one of their greatest mistakes

Wedding photographers are brilliant at capturing special moments from your wedding day, there are certain things they can’t capture for instance audio and movement Hiring a professional videographer will ensure that  you will  get all pictures and sound bites  from your big  day  included  in one memorable wedding film that  you will  treasure for ever.

Wedding videos are not like the old days

Some couples think that wedding videography  means  bright lights huge cameras   in your face all day.  Today’s wedding videographers adapt a more documentary  easygoing style of filming, meaning you might not even notice them at all during the day, here at Drangan Video one of our favourite compliemenyts  is “We didn’t  see you all day”

 Video captures audio and movement

The greatest reason why you should consider hiring  a wedding videographer, video captures magical audible moments  such as your mom’s  words of advice as she helps with putting on the wedding dress,  your Dad’s  reaction to seeing you in your outfit for the first time,  or the fun and laughter during the morning preps. These are the moments that  you’ll relive everytime you look at your video long after your wedding day,  there’s also no better way to document your vow exchange. Video will also capture those important moments from the wedding reception, such as toasts and songs and not forgetting the first dance.

Video captures the non set up moments

Your photographer will get all those sometimes boring set up posed  shots, but for everything for else  you will  need a professional discreet videographer. And since there’s no posing, you won’t have to worry about been embarrassed or looking  or awkward on video, just  enjoy the fun and celebrations into the late hours

Wedding videos are not long dull epic films

Gone are the days that  a wedding video  plays out as a boring 3 hour slideshow,  your videographer will  capture all the emotion and fun from the full day and deliver as a short  engaging three  to five-minute highlights film.  Same day edits are popular  in wedding videography, meaning your videographer will capture the best moments from the morning preps up to and including moments from the ceremony  that  be viewed at the reception, short highlight films are also shared on Instagram, Facebook, Vimeo and Youtube
