Being Social with your Wedding Video

Over the past decade we have seen a huge surge in couples sharing snippets of their wedding video online. This trend looks set to continue long into the future and we are happy to provide our brides and grooms with shorter edits that they can share online with friends and family.

Social media has had a huge impact on the way many of us live our lives and in many respects this has been incredibly positive. Let’s take a look at just some of the ways social media has influenced the way we plan and share our wedding celebrations.

Announcing the Engagement

Prior to the age of social media, when couples became engaged they would have to contact friends and family individually to share their big news. Sometimes travelling long distances or spending a fortune on long-distance calls to make sure no one had been left out! Today we can simply pop a post up on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any of the other popular social networks that our friends and family use. To accompany the announcement of the engagement, we can share photo’s of the ring, the happy couple, even of the proposal itself! Embracing social media in this way means that you have a bit more time to enjoy the celebrations!

Save the Date
Social media, wedding websites and chat apps now mean we can contact anyone almost instantly. In many instances we have spoke to brides and grooms who have set up an ‘Event’ on Facebook to ensure friends and family are aware of the wedding date, long before invites are due to be sent. This online notification of your wedding date can save a fortune on wedding stationery costs and is a great way to give the heads up to family and friends living abroad!

Gift Register

If you and your intended have just bought a new house or have some specific gifts in mind for your wedding, you’ll find that there are a number of apps and social media sites that can greatly assist with this. Having an online gift register allows your guests to see your ideal gifts and will eliminate ‘double gifting’. Whilst gift registries are not typically common in Ireland, with couples preferring not to request gifts, there does seem to be a new trend emerging that could see this become popular in the coming years.

Wedding DIY Tips and Tricks

In this blog post we are going to share some fantastic DIY wedding tips and tricks with you. Over the years that we have been providing wedding videography services, we have been blessed to see hundreds of couples exchange vows right across the country. It is because of these fabulous brides and grooms that we have gained an insight into some top DIY wedding ideas!

• DIY Entertainment for the Kiddies
If you have children sharing your big day, it’s always a nice touch to provide them with some entertainment to keep them happy and content. Instead of spending a fortune on a magician or clown, you could offer some simple DIY entertainment that the small ones will just love!
Put together some customised packs of crayons and colouring books (or print colouring pads free from online sources). These can be made extra special by adding the child’s name to the bag as a keepsake they can cherish. These are especially effective for young children and the effort will be greatly appreciated by their parents.

• Table Centrepieces
This is one of the DIY wedding items we see most in our travels around the country. DIY table décor is on the up and really adds something special to the appearance of your venue. Whether you use handpicked wild flowers from your favourite space or rope in friends and family to donate flowers from their garden, this colourful display can be a real talking point and add a touch of your personality to the venue of your choice.

• Church/Venue Décor
Whilst you may be tempted to pay your local florist to decorate the venue before your big day, it is worth looking at doing this yourself. Use flowers from your garden, ribbons and bows from local haberdasheries or craft shops and decorative items such as wooden birds and hearts to make your wedding venue shine without spending a fortune!

• Wedding Invitations
Homemade wedding invitations add a real touch of personality to your big day and can become a treasured memento for your guests. Take a trip to your local craft shop and price up the items you would need to put some personalised wedding invites together. You may be very surprised at the savings you can make!

• Wedding Favours
Wedding favours can come in all shapes and sizes and can be a brilliant icebreaker for those sharing a table at your wedding. Providing wedding favours for a large guest list can be expensive, so this is something you could absolutely consider doing yourself or with the help of friends. Opt for something simple like an organza bag filled with some of your favourite sweet treats!

If you’re hoping to incorporate some DIY elements into your wedding, we would absolutely love to hear your ideas!

Drangan Video: The Changing Face of Wedding Videography

Over the past 25 years as a wedding videographer, I have seen a huge change in trends, technologies and editing software. The tools available to the modern videographer have greatly enhanced the service we now offer and Drangan Video has embraced each and every one of these changes.

In this blog post I’m going to tell you a bit about our modern approach to wedding videography and the changes we have made over the years to become one of Ireland’s most sought after wedding videographers.

Wedding Videography Tipperary

Brides and grooms consistently tell us that they are surprised at just how hands off we are, never intruding upon personal moments and in many cases their guests have told them they didn’t even know we were there! This style of non-intrusive wedding videography allows us to capture the moments as they really happen and deliver a beautiful documentary of the day to our wonderful brides and grooms. How do we do it, I hear you ask?

Changing Technologies

Let’s take the exchanging of vows as an example. During the wedding we make a point of never getting in the way of the natural progression of the vows or ceremony and we do this by setting up our cameras and filming from a distance. Modern technology has given us with the ability to do this by providing the groom with a pen-like audio recorder that can be inserted into their suit or shirt pocket. This tiny device picks up all audio and ensures we can deliver top quality sound on all videos, regardless of how far away we physically are. There is absolutely no need for a modern videographer to be intruding upon these special moments!

Changing Trends

It has now almost become a tradition to film the preparations on the morning of the wedding and I absolutely love this trend! Providing our videography services to couples on the morning of the wedding means that we get to truly capture the excitement in the hours before the ceremony. The enthusiasm is absolutely infectious and we are blessed to capture some truly tender moments between close friends, families and neighbours. When our couples look back on these moments, they get to see parts of the day that would otherwise remain a mystery. It really is truly special to share these moments after the big day with your new spouse and enjoy them together for the first time.
Changing Approach

Over our time in the industry, we have honed our skills to a degree that ensures none of our shots are ever set up. This takes great pressure off the couple and means they can go about their day without ever having to worry about whether the videographer is capturing everything. We will be your eyes and ears for the day, never missing a tender moment or asking your guests to pose for shots. Our approach is natural, non-intrusive and results in a truly incredible documentary of your big day.

Mount Juliet and why we love it!

Here at Drangan Video we have been privileged to provide wedding video services to brides and grooms right across the country. Every one of these weddings has been unique and special and without exception, the venues have always gone above and beyond to provide couples with everything they needed on their big day.

Weddings In Mount Juliet Kilkenny

There is however one very special venue that stands out to us, due to its location, the setting, decor and dedication to making every wedding as special as it can be. In this blog post we are going to focus on Mount Juliet in County Kilkenny and provide our readers with our own insight into what makes this venue so incredibly special.

Over the past 25 years we have filmed quite a few weddings at this venue and have always been taken aback by the changes, improvements and general setting of the location. Here are just a few of the reasons why we believe Mount Juliet in Kilkenny is one of Ireland’s most perfect wedding venues:

5* Luxury

In March of this year, the Mount Juliet Estate was awarded 5* by Fáilte Ireland, one of only 42 venues in Ireland that now hold this prestigious ranking. This 5* ranking is reserved for only the most luxurious hotels and Fáilte Ireland are quite reserved about handing them out, this is a clear acknowledgement of the very high standards we have witnessed time and time again.

Choice of Accommodation

The Mount Juliet Estate offers a choice to guests by way of a 32 bedroom Georgian manor house and the 93 bedroom ‘Hunters Yard’ hotel. Both of these properties are furnished lavishly but offer 2 distinct experiences. The rooms at ‘Hunters Yard’ offer a more modern twist on luxury and feel slightly more laid back than the Georgian manor, however if you’re in the mood for something a little more regal, the Georgian manor house is definitely the way to go. We love that these two properties give our brides and grooms an incredible choice on their big day.

The Grounds

As professional wedding videographers we love nothing more than filming in the 500-acre estate that surrounds Mount Juliet. The perfectly manicured gardens, meadows, parkland and wooded area make it a videographer and photographers dream!

The Location

Situated just a short 20 minute drive from Kilkenny city, this location is perfect for those travelling from all corners of the country.

Over the coming months we are going to look at some more of our favourite venues and would love to hear from you about your special day and the venue that made it extra special for you and your guests.

Questions for the Wedding Cake Baker

In this blog post we’re going to talk about the wedding cake and the questions you should be asking the baker before making your purchase. Over the years we have seen a huge change in wedding cake trends, from traditional 3 or 4 tier cakes painstakingly iced with lace detail to cupcakes, chocolate cakes and even cakes made solely of wheels of cheese! The questions we ask below, should allow you to make an informed decision on the type of cake you want and ensure that you know what you’re getting well in advance of the big day.

Wedding Planning Tipperary

Can the baker give you samples to try?
You don’t buy a car without test-driving it and you certainly don’t spend hundreds (sometimes thousands) of Euros on a cake if you haven’t tasted the merchandise first! Ask the baker if they can give you some sample cakes to take away and taste at home with your loved one before you make that all important decision.

Can you do this?
You may have seen a cake elsewhere that really caught your eye, whether at a friends wedding or on social media. If you really have your heart set on a certain type of cake, we would advise you to provide as many images to your baker as possible. They should be able to tell you immediately whether they can accommodate your request.

When is the cake baked?
This is one of the most important questions you need to ask your baker. You will want to ensure your cake is as fresh as possible when you and your guests tuck in! In most cases, the cake will be baked approx. a week before the wedding, if it’s baked any earlier it can be ‘too’ fresh and difficult to ice. However, making the baker aware that you want your cake to be as fresh as possible is always a good idea.

Kilkenny Wedding Cake

What kind of delivery service do you offer?
Let’s assume your wedding is on a weekend and the reception is taking place more than 20km from the baker’s premises. Can they deliver directly to the venue for you on the morning of the wedding or the night before? If not, can they provide you with a delivery option? What is the cost of delivery? Make sure you ask these questions well in advance to avoid any last minute panic!

Is the price negotiable?
If you don’t ask, you don’t get, right? Never be afraid to ask the baker if this is their best price, even a small discount can make a difference to your wedding budget!

Other helpful information:

• Does the baker have a portfolio they can show you?
• Are references or testimonials available on their website?
• Check out the baker’s social media page to see what previous customers have to say.
• Maybe you want more than one type of cake? Ask your baker about different flavours for different tiers of your cake.
• If you opt for cupcakes, make sure order more than needed to ensure everyone enjoying your celebrations gets a full cupcake.
• Agree on a final price including delivery with your baker. Make sure to ask if there are any extra charges so you can budget for these in advance.
