Why we Love September Weddings

Are you and your beloved getting married this month? Hearty congratulations to you both from all at Drangan Video!

In this article we are going to talk about September weddings, why we love them so much and why September is the most popular month of the year to get married in Ireland.

Did you know that over 15% of weddings in Ireland take place in September? This early autumn month has long been a favourite of Irish brides and grooms and with very good reason:

September Weddings Tipperary and Kilkenny

• For those of you who are hoping for a bit of sunshine on your big day but don’t have a budget for a wedding in June or July, September is the perfect month to get married. Prices for weddings in September are substantially lower than June, July or August.
• From September onwards the natural colours around us change to breath stopping oranges, ambers, golds and reds. This gives you the opportunity to capture the most amazing photographs and video footage for your big day.
• There’s still some heat in the air and a good chance of sunshine in September. Whilst the calendar tells us it’s autumn, September is historically a really pleasant month here in Ireland.
• Autumnal flowers – For those of you who want something a little bit different for your floral décor or bouquets, September offers a beautiful range of colours that are not available at other times of the year. Golds, browns, yellows and bronzes along with brighter more exotic colours are all available throughout September without the additional cost associated with summer blooms. You may also have the advantage of designing your own floral bouquets by using what is available in nature during this wonderful month.
• The daylight hours are starting to shorten, but you can still enjoy the sunshine up until 7:30 pm in the earlier weeks of September. After this time the weather should still be pleasant enough for your guests to sit outside if they wish. This is a wonderful opportunity to decorate your outdoor area with candles, lanterns and atmospheric party lighting.
• September sunsets – Traditionally, the sunsets in September are breathtakingly beautiful and will make for a truly impressive backdrop for any photography or videography.

Important Decisions when planning your Wedding

For those of you who have just gotten engaged and are looking forward to planning your big day, let us first say a very hearty congratulations to you and your loved one. In this blog post we are going to look at the very first (and most important) decisions you need to make to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

Checking your wedding planning list
What type of Wedding would you like?

One of the very first things you should discuss as a couple is what type of wedding you would like. Would you like to get married in a registry office, a favourite hotel, on a sandy beach in the sun or through a religious ceremony in your local church or temple? This is probably the most important decision you will make and once you have decided, then everything else is full steam ahead!

Are you going to celebrate your Engagement with a Party?

More and more couples are opting for engagement celebrations these days and we certainly agree that it’s a great way to celebrate your love and get started with the wedding planning process. Whether you opt for a low-key family affair or decide to splash out on a weekend of celebrations, how you celebrate is totally up to you. Some couples opt to share a meal with family and postpone the real celebrations for the big day. Whatever the choice you make, we’re sure you’ll have the very best time.

Planning the perfect wedding day
Decide on Potential Wedding Dates

Not that you have celebrated your engagement and decided on the type of ceremony you would like to have, it’s time to get down to the business of deciding a date. We would recommend choosing a number of dates that would work for you; this will give you more options when booking venues. Keep in mind that a mid-week wedding will give you far more value for money and will keep the budget down considerably. Once you move into weekend or bank holiday territory you can add thousands to the cost of your day and also increase costs for guests who may want to stay at your venue of choice.

Explore a Number of Venues.

Whether you require one venue or two, it is vitally important that you start exploring your options as soon as you possibly can. Hotel and wedding venues can book up quite fast during the summer months, so if you are planning a summer wedding make sure you get planning as early as possible.

Wedding preparations save the date
Choosing the Bridal Party

Time to sit down and decide firstly, how many individuals will make up your bridal party.

• Bridesmaids – how many and who.
• Groomsmen – how many and who.
• Maid of Honour
• Best Man
• Paige Boy
• Flower Girl

Paige boys and flower girls are not a necessity, however if you have some special children in your life that you would like to be part of your big day, then this could be a way to make them feel incredibly special.

More important decisions:

• Put a firm budget in place.
• Plan your guest list.
• Should you find yourself busy with work or other commitments, it may be an idea to hire a wedding planner at this early stage.

Wedding planning tips and advice

Once the big decisions have been made, you can then proceed with contacting wedding suppliers and vendors to make your special day a day to remember.

Wherever you are in the wedding planning process, the team here at Drangan Video would absolutely love to hear from you. We provide professional wedding videography services right across Ireland and will be happy to travel to your venue of choice to capture your big day.

Year on year we are seeing couples from all over the world who have chosen Ireland as their ideal wedding destination. This upsurge in destination weddings is most welcome across the country and you can be assured that you will receive a warm Irish welcome wherever you go.

We’re not blowing our own trumpet here, but Ireland is one of THE most romantic destinations you can possibly imagine. Castles, loughs, folklore and scenery all combine to make Ireland the perfect choice for the most important day of your life.

Let’s take a look at some of the steps you will need to take to plan your Irish wedding.

Some of the legalities:
To marry in Ireland you must be at least 18 old.
Should you wish to marry in a church, this must be your first wedding.
Three months notice is required to be given to a registrar in person so you will have to make two trips.
A €200 fee will be required to obtain your marriage registration form from the registrar.
You will require passports and birth certificates.
For civil ceremonies / non-religious ceremonies for those who may be remarrying, you will require official documentation that supports your entitlement to remarry (divorce papers, dissolution papers or death certificates).

Getting married in a Church:
For those of you who wish to have a Catholic ceremony, you will need to ensure the following:

That you and your intended spouse are confirmed Catholics (exceptions may be granted, however this will need to be discussed with your chosen priest).

As well as the points listed in the previous section you will also need to provide a baptismal cert, confirmation cert and a letter of freedom from your current parish.

As with all Catholic marriages you will be required to undertake a marriage preparation course. Your chosen priest or a registrar will be happy to provide recommendations.

Planning the Wedding:
Once you have all the legalities in place, it’s truly time to start planning your dream Irish wedding.

Ireland has a wealth of wedding venues for you to choose from, whether you’re looking forward to a fairy tale castle or a lakeside retreat, you will find that your options are many.

Because you will be doing a lot of your planning from outside the country, we would highly recommend hiring the services of a professional wedding planner. A strong wedding planner will be able to organise everything from the entertainment and décor right through to transportation, beauty treatments and wedding videographer hire.

Winter Fairytale Wedding Tipperary

In this week’s wedding blog I am delighted and proud to be sharing  the wedding of Susan Tannock who is from Australia and Chris Bracken from Littleton, Thurles  who were marring in Holy Cross Abbey Tipperary  on December 30th 2017, the happy couple enjoyed a splendid wedding reception in the ever  popular Anner Hotel. The town of Thurles  is the home of the GAA and has hosted many big match days in Semple Stadium but none  more  important as Chris and Susan’s love match.

Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny  more and more couples are opting for off season  weddings ,   Winter can be a romantic time of year with  fairy lights and the  excitement of Christmas  in the air.
when  planning  a summer wedding  you are feeling confident about  the weather but let’s  not forget it is Ireland after all. In winter, although its  certain that there will be no heat, or sun  at least you know what to expect  and won’t get caught out.

Chris and Susan’s Winter Fairytale Wedding

The  Anner Hotel is situated just outside Thurles on the Two-Mile Borris  road,  resting on its own  private grounds with  tastefully kept  gardens and pathways.  Over the years the  four star  hotel   has increased in size offering a host of modern amenities, it is now one of the top wedding venues catering for Tipperary and Kilkenny wedding receptions. Chris and Susan’s wedding video story began at 10:30 in the hotel wedding suite  with coverage of the bridal preps.  December 30th was a very cold day  a rather  big shock for the Aussies who were leaving  their sunny warm summer behind,  the pressure of preparations did help to  keep  temperatures  rising for the girls.

Happy Wedding Video Holy Cross Abbey Thurles Tipperary

Holy Cross Abbey wast the couple’s choice of wedding ceremony location,  the beautifully restored Monastic site and Church from the 12th century  looked stunning in the low angled  December sunshine.  The Abbey is a working church  it is a popular location for  wedding ceremonies  it is steeped in history  if those walls could only speak of times gone by ? the aisle has a natural  slope towards the altar to help you tie the knot!

Susan her Dad and  the girls arrived  on time in a beautifully restored VW camper Van, the rumble of the German engineered engine was certainly  a step back in time for the older guests, there is something special about a colorful  wedding camper van, a couple of quick photos of Susan and her Dad then it was time to begin the long  walk  up the aisle to take Chris’s hand in matrimony .
The church was lovely and warm due to the recently installed underfloor heating providing a welcome break from a biting winter chill.
