Last Minute Tips for your Summer Wedding

Are you getting married this summer? Well first of all let us wish you a hearty congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! In this article we are going to go through some last minute tips and checks that will ensure everything runs smoothly on your big day.

Summer Weddings Kilkenny

At the moment, it looks like the forecast ahead is pretty positive, temperatures are on the up and we’re finally starting to see some of that sunshine that evaded us for most of May and June. With that in mind, you may want to see some of our last minute tips that will ensure you and your guests remain cool, comfortable and relaxed for the duration of the ceremony and celebrations.

Extra Boutonnieres

You know those lovely button hole flowers that the bridal party wear for the day? If you are expecting soaring temperatures on the day of the wedding, then it may be a good idea to ask your florist to prepare extra to cover heat damage and withering.

Outdoor Area

If you have not already done so, it’s a good idea to contact your venue and ask them if they can provide some outdoor space for your wedding party. Whether that’s a dedicated marquee area for you and your guests or a section of the garden where guests can enjoy some fresh air in the warm evening.

Welcome Drinks

There is absolutely no doubt that your guests would be delighted to be welcomed with a cool, refreshing drink upon arrival at your venue. Ask the hotel/caterers or venue to provide a range of iced juices and fruit for the arrival of your guests.

Goodies Hamper

Whilst you may have already prepared hampers for the ladies and men’s rooms in your venues, it may be worth adding the following to your list to ensure everyone remains comfortable for the duration of the day:

1. Deodorant
2. Flip-flops
3. Face wipes
4. Insect repellent
5. SPF 50
6. Sunglasses
7. Fans

Parasols

If you are hoping to spend a lot of time outdoors on your big day, it is essential that you make your guests as comfortable as possible. Ask the venue to provide you with any large parasols they have onsite or bring your own decorated with ribbons, bows and fairy lights to add something extra special. These parasols will provide shelter from the sun when it’s at its highest and will provide some welcome shade for all ages.

Wedding Ceremony Options in Kilkenny and Tipperary

Ireland has changed significantly over the past decade and here at Drangan Video we believe this is something to be celebrated! Gone are the days when your only option for a wedding was the church or the registry office, the choices available today mean that all loved up couples in Kilkenny, Tipperary and all over Ireland can now get married in the venue of their choice.

In this wedding blog post, we are going to explore some of the many ceremony options available in Ireland today and discuss how they differ from one another.

Interfaith Ceremonies:
Interfaith ceremonies are marriages between two people of different religions. Depending on the religion, you may be permitted to marry in a religious ceremony that encapsulates both of your faiths, alternatively, inter faith marriages can be performed in a registry office or as a civil ceremony.
Civil Ceremonies:
A civil ceremony in Ireland can take place in any venue that is registered with the H.S.E. Civil ceremonies are non-religious and are legally binding once performed by a registrar on H.S.E. registered grounds.

Catholic Ceremonies:
For many decades, religious ceremonies in Ireland were the only option for couples that wished to tie the knot. That said, Catholic ceremonies are still a popular choice for many couples who have a strong faith and wish to profess their commitment to each other through in their local church or cathedral. Catholic church wedding ceremonies are performed by a priest and are legally binding.

Humanist Ceremonies:
Humanist ceremonies are on the increase in Ireland, with many couples opting for a non-religious, non-faith ceremony. Your wedding should be officiated by a ‘HAI’ certified celebrant – you’ll find a list on the Humanist Association of Ireland website. Humanist weddings are legally binding and are the perfect way to celebrate your big day if you are all faiths or none!

Alternative Ceremonies:
An alternative or independent ceremony is a non-legally binding ceremony that celebrates the coming together of a couple in a unique way. Venues do not need to be registered with the H.S.E., so you can even get married in your back garden if you like! Note that to have your marriage legally recognised, you will need to complete the necessary paperwork.

Wedding Ceremony Locations Ireland

Over the past 25 years, Drangan Video has seen the landscape of weddings change in Ireland. These changes have all been incredibly positive and we are now seeing couples marry in a way that makes them truly happy. In 2019 Ireland, there are no rules, you can marry in a venue of your choosing, you can marry the person you truly love, you can write your own vows, design your ceremony from start to finish, there are no restriction on you as a couple. This positive shift means more of our citizens feel included and for that we are truly grateful.

Questions for the Wedding Cake Baker

In this blog post we’re going to talk about the wedding cake and the questions you should be asking the baker before making your purchase. Over the years we have seen a huge change in wedding cake trends, from traditional 3 or 4 tier cakes painstakingly iced with lace detail to cupcakes, chocolate cakes and even cakes made solely of wheels of cheese! The questions we ask below, should allow you to make an informed decision on the type of cake you want and ensure that you know what you’re getting well in advance of the big day.

Wedding Planning Tipperary

Can the baker give you samples to try?
You don’t buy a car without test-driving it and you certainly don’t spend hundreds (sometimes thousands) of Euros on a cake if you haven’t tasted the merchandise first! Ask the baker if they can give you some sample cakes to take away and taste at home with your loved one before you make that all important decision.

Can you do this?
You may have seen a cake elsewhere that really caught your eye, whether at a friends wedding or on social media. If you really have your heart set on a certain type of cake, we would advise you to provide as many images to your baker as possible. They should be able to tell you immediately whether they can accommodate your request.

When is the cake baked?
This is one of the most important questions you need to ask your baker. You will want to ensure your cake is as fresh as possible when you and your guests tuck in! In most cases, the cake will be baked approx. a week before the wedding, if it’s baked any earlier it can be ‘too’ fresh and difficult to ice. However, making the baker aware that you want your cake to be as fresh as possible is always a good idea.

What kind of delivery service do you offer?
Let’s assume your wedding is on a weekend and the reception is taking place more than 20km from the baker’s premises. Can they deliver directly to the venue for you on the morning of the wedding or the night before? If not, can they provide you with a delivery option? What is the cost of delivery? Make sure you ask these questions well in advance to avoid any last minute panic!

Is the price negotiable?
If you don’t ask, you don’t get, right? Never be afraid to ask the baker if this is their best price, even a small discount can make a difference to your wedding budget!

Other helpful information:

• Does the baker have a portfolio they can show you?
• Are references or testimonials available on their website?
• Check out the baker’s social media page to see what previous customers have to say.
• Maybe you want more than one type of cake? Ask your baker about different flavours for different tiers of your cake.
• If you opt for cupcakes, make sure order more than needed to ensure everyone enjoying your celebrations gets a full cupcake.
• Agree on a final price including delivery with your baker. Make sure to ask if there are any extra charges so you can budget for these in advance.

Question 1: What is the videographers style?

The team at Drangan Video offer a number of different styles to suit your dream wedding video. We find that most of our couples prefer a documentary/natural filming approach here we capture the moments of your day as the actually occur. This means that we don’t intrude upon your day or get in the way of your guests, and the resulting video is a true representation of your wedding day. A documentary style wedding video means we won’t stage any shots, we’ll just quietly work away in the background while you enjoy the celebrations.

Question 2: Does the Videographer have experience?

Having confidence in your wedding videographer is really the most important part of making your choice. Whilst we all know someone who is good with a camera, your wedding video should really only be shot by someone who has years of experience and can work professionally at every moment of the day. Drangan Video have provided wedding videography services to hundreds of brides and grooms right across Ireland. We know where we need to be and when and you can be assured that we will never miss a moment of your big day.

Wedding Trends for 2019

It’s January again, that time of the year where we take a look at the trends that look set to take the wedding world by storm for the next 12 months. In this blog post we’re going to take a look at the trends for 2019, whilst also giving a nod to those old trends that looks set to continue long into the future. We’d love to hear any insights you may have, so do please feel free to comment below or get in touch with Drangan Video  via social media.

Colour Trends in 2019

2019 see the continuation of the trend for pastel colours; however, we are now looking at darker more dramatic shades. Set your sights on darks purples, pinks and blues and you can be sure that you’ll be right on trend. Silvers, golds, bronzes and metallic tones are also looking likely to top the style trends for guests and bridal parties alike!

Making the Change

We’re not quite sure if we should thank Megan Markle for this or not, but the stunning bride has set the tone for things to come with a change of dress after the wedding ceremony. Realising that cost plays a huge part in this new trend, we’d recommend keeping your eyes peeled for bridal bargains on the run up to your big day. Opt for an outfit or dress that allows you to relax and enjoy some dancing later in the evening without having to worry about or be restricted by a heavy gown.

Personalised Wedding Stationary

Never before has wedding stationary been so important! The trend now seems to be pointing more than ever to personalised wedding invites with monograms designed specifically for you both, professional calligraphy and laser cut designs. Most small towns, villages and cities in Ireland will have a number of craft professionals that will be delighted to design something bespoke for your and your intended. Plus you’re supporting a local small business, what could be better than that?

The More Intimate Experience

Whilst it appears the recession in Ireland is well and truly over (for now), Brides and Grooms have learned from the past decade of austerity and have taken stock of what is most important for their wedding day. Gone are the days of large extravagant weddings with three or four hundred guests, we now look more to the people who are most important in our lives and put them centre stage. Large weddings are great fun, but when the costs run too high it can be hard to justify any resulting debt!

More and more we are seeing Brides and Grooms employ the services of outside catering companies, burger vans, burrito bars, ice-cream vendors and mixologists! If you fancy a change from the traditional sit down dinner, have a look at some of your local mobile catering service providers for some incredible inspiration.

We are happy to travel anywhere in Ireland and will always work closely with you to provide you a service that will last you a lifetime.
