Having A Small Wedding In Ireland

Here at Drangan Video we have adapted very well to recording  smaller weddings in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Waterford, Carlow and many other counties, smaller weddings are the new normal at least for the moment.

With Government guidelines limiting the numbers to 25 people it might be worth considering the following  small wedding ideas which means you won’t lose out on having a day to remember.
From ways to make a large venue seem more intimate, to having a family style dinner with creative seating, your day can be just as enjoyable.

Having A Small Wedding In Ireland 2020/2021

The big white wedding is not for everyone  or is it possible to have one at the moment, due to restrictions on numbers  smaller weddings are growing in popularity as couples choose to  just have their closest family and friends or loved ones. With a more intimate guest list, you can create a personal and unforgettable wedding day experience.

Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny a small wedding with less than 15 guests is sometimes referred to as a micro wedding and  having 40 guests is described as having a small wedding, it’s really up to each couple what they consider to being a small or large wedding. If you’re trying to get get your head around the idea of having a small wedding, just consider the following reasons for going small.

The  cost of your wedding will be much less expensive:
You will have more time with  individual family members:
You can splash out more cash on your biggest priorities:
A smaller wedding will be a much more intimate celebration:
Its important to remember that by going with a small guest list doesn’t mean that everything else has  to be small, why not splash out big on the dress, invites, venue and dinner.

Tips for a Planning a Small Wedding

Make sure that your not sharing your venue with another wedding:
From my experience as a wedding videographer I get  feedback from lots of couples stating that they don’t want to share their wedding venue with another couple. Make it clear that you want exclusive use regardless of wedding size, having to share your wedding reception  is a definite thumbs down

We’ve got some great wedding venues in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford,Cork and throughout Ireland that specialize in hosting micro weddings. These venues take pride in holding very small weddings so they’ll know exactly how to make the most of your 25 guest wedding

Only Invite Your Personal  Friends and Family
You will need to be pretty rootless  with the guest list, that 25 guest limit includes the couple, the celebrant, Videographer/Photographer so now you’re looking at a maximum of 20 guests. Every person that you invite to a small wedding should be someone that you are genuinely close to and is very much part of your life every day.

Do You Need A Wedding Planner for a small Wedding
Many venues offer a wedding coordinator service as part of the wedding package, with a smaller number of guests you will have less people to call upon to do certain jobs. Availing of the planner means the day will flow easier and you won’t have to worry about your wedding reception time table.

Sharing Your Wedding on Social Media Yes or No
Unplugging your wedding entails asking your guests  to put away their phone cameras  and focus on living in the moment. Privacy seems  a bigger consideration for couples who are having a small wedding. As a wedding videographer I’ve often been asked not to share any video clips from the wedding on Facebook, Instagram or other social media sites, so don’t  be afraid to ask guests or videographer to refrain from sharing on social media.

Maxamize Your Wedding Day Memories

If you really want to get married now, my advice is go for it you may need to completely  change your original wedding plan  forget the large formal wedding by choosing a civil ceremony in a private room at your favorite wedding venue.  Whatever your wedding ends up looking like, embrace it forget about  your original plan, take advantage of what you’ve got right now. So focus on all the good things, your family, close friends your good health  and spend your budget on maxamizing your  wedding day memories. Whatever the size of your guest list, your small wedding ideas are a brilliant place to start in creating a memorable and unforgettable wedding  day.

Documentary Style Wedding Videographer

Drangan Video has been producing documentary style wedding videos throughout Tipperary, Kilkenny, Waterford, Cork and all over Ireland since 2005. During my  career as a wedding videographer I’ve seen many  descriptions of videography styles been written and talked about  but none more  than documentary style wedding videos.

It’s a description that has been so misused,  it now gives out a confusing message or image of a videographer running around behind trees like a sniper, picking off close up head shots through a long lens, nothing could be further from the truth, is about an unobtrusive style of wedding videography which avoids directing the layout and timetable for the day allowing the couple and guests to enjoy themselves sometimes leaving bridal party and guests wondering if there was a videographer recording the day

Documentary Wedding Videography Tipperary & Kilkenny

Documentary wedding videograpy is often referred to as reportage style wedding films or a news journalist approach to capturing your wedding day footage. What ever terms are used they all refer to a totally unobtrusive approach to shooting a wedding video.  Here at Drangan Video we document every wedding  with the same hands off approach allowing you to relax and enjoy what will  be one of the most memorable days in your  life. Finding the right wedding videographer is very important, do loads of research and look at lots of sample videos and reviews.

Documentary style wedding videography captures natural genuine moments from an entire wedding day. If the wedding documentary approach has been truly mastered the finished wedding film will  look natural with bride, groom and guests totally unaware that they are been filmed.  As with any documentary style of videography the film should convey  the true story within the wedding day atmosphere. Documented wedding videos should be able to convey  what is happening in the scene without the need for any explanation or credits.

Weddings are the the perfect gig for documentary style videographers, the variety of emotions throughout  the day makes a wedding day very special , the morning preps, the pre-wedding ceremony nerves followed by post ceremony celebrations this may be followed by a tear or two  during the speeches,  an absent family member or close  friend mentioned, then the first dance, greetings from  guests on camera and the disco.

Producing a wedding film is all about creating a beautifully captured and  emotive collection of video clips that truly tell the story of your wedding day. A professional wedding videographer will produce an unobtrusive documentary film that will be looked at  throughout the years and will take you back to the best day of your life, just imagine reliving that special day with your children and friends time after time.
I always feel a great sene of pride when asked to document such  a special day, its not  just another wedding video its an honor to be part of their celebration. Its an emotional wedding film capturing all of those little things that often go unnoticed, those emotions and memories that are unique to each individual couple.

It’s an honor to know that so many couples in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Cork and Waterford choose me as their wedding videographer, placing  this responsibility in my hands is a  genuine honor. I’m lucky to earn my living producing very personal documentary wedding film collections.

A documentary wedding videographers work should always create an emotional and entertaining  reaction. The authenticity  that I try to reproduce in my video productions right across the wedding day coverage is worth so much more than a selection of fake set up shots

Recap on what documentary wedding videography is

We are storytelling wedding videographers sharing the narrative of the day through a selection  of documentary style video clips each  wedding video clip needs to work on its own merit and show genuine captured moments, and not just a selection of posed set up shots. Individual video takes need to present subject  honestly, with authenticity and needless to mention  with no direction from the videographer.

The wedding film should show the viewer what is happening in the moment or the scene, It’s not just about being an unobtrusive wedding videographer there’s so much more to it than that. The focus is on storytelling, on creating an elegant, entraining documentary account of the best day of your life. Professional documentary style wedding videographers will source and capture footage that you didn’t see on the day and include it as part of your wedding day story.

Mary and Seán’s Wedding Video Story

Mary & Seán tied the knot on October 26th 2019 it was a fab fun filled wedding day they were a lovely couple to work with, both so laid back and easygoing.

During the Irish  Famine the  Warhouse in Ballingarry Tipperary  was the location of the 1848 Rebellion. The house shows the history of the Irish  Famine, as I drove by the war house  on my way to Mary’s bridal preps my thoughts were  of how lucky I am  to be heading off to a carefree  happy event.
On arrival I captured nice aerial drone  shots of the hills of Ballingarry it was a very cold crisp morning,  I was glad to get indoors  the sounds of laughter chat and excitement coming from the house was heartwarming. I’ve been shooting weddings in Tipperary and Kilkenny for over 25 years,  all the experience  has been invaluable, the morning preps are a mood  barometer as to what kind of wedding we will have.  The barometer reading was high for this one,  the girls had their hair/makeup done  in Mary’s brother’s house then they set off on foot to Mary’s parents house a 4 minute walk down a winding country road a great opportunity for fun video shots.

Weddings In Holycross Abbey

Mary & Seán’s choice of wedding ceremony location was the beautifully restored Holycross Abbey in Tipperary  its also a  popular tourist attraction where visitors  can ring  the oldest church bell in Ireland it is more 750 years old.  Holy Cross Abbey is the number one choice for weddings ceremonies  in Tipperary.
Seán is a proud Holycross man he is well know in Tipperary GAA circles as a club  hurler and county supporter, the boys arrived early in good time to greet their guests as they made their way into the much needed  warmth of the church.
The aisle in the Holycross Abbey is quite a long walk in heels it was no problem for Mary,  she was in good hands as she made her way up with her brother Pat who handed her over to Seán in an emotional exchange. The ceremony was conducted by  Fr. Derry Quirke  from Ballingarry  he added  a personal touch to the ceremony by mentioning Mary’s late dad who would have been so proud to see his daughter saying yes to the love of her life Seán Comerford.

After the ceremony it was time that familiar joyful  walk down the aisle followed by a lengthy guest receiving line at the church door. Guests were not for hanging around for very long, the late October weather was a chilly a reminder that summer days or becoming a memory. It was a pleasure working with the wonderful  Katie Kavanagh for the photos her work is fun, candid and laid back, she did the bridal party photos around Holy Cross before heading off to the hotel.

Feeling Sad About Postponing Your Wedding

Covid 19 has played havoc with weddings here in  Ireland and around the world  so many  couples having  to postpone their wedding day.  If you are feeling depressed and  powerless  you’re not the only one.  In this blog post we have come with  a few  ideas to help you cope with the disappointment.

Feeling Depressed  About Postponing Your Wedding

From all here at Drangan Video we are so  sorry  that  your special day has been postponed  our thoughts are with you  A wedding is one of the biggest events in a couples life it binds two people together  for life.
Organizing  a wedding is an  emotional  time with a huge build to the big day  months of planning  and clever  financial  management are just the tip of the iceberg.  Then  having to  postpone and re-plan all over again  is  very difficult  to handle.

A wedding cancellation  is a huge life changing  event for a couple, but with everything that’s going on in the world over the past few months  if all your loved ones are healthy and well, you are still very lucky and all is not lost. When you’re  trying to come to terms  with having to postpone  your big day, you might also  be feeling guilty for not appreciating  what you do have, this is typical human reaction the most important thing you can do is to accept that you are allowed to feel sad.  We understand that  our brain reacts differently to certain emotions  that  inner voice might be saying this is the worst thing that has ever happened  I cannot cope with this terrible  news  it is not what I wanted.

It is natural to feel all of those emotions  each partner may experience them at  at different times or in different ways  just because they are not showing their emotions in the way that you are, it doesn’t mean they aren’t feeling them. Men do have a tendency to hide their feelings  where as  women like  to talk about and share their emotions. The worst thing you can do is tell your partner that they are overreacting, being oversensitive or taking things out of proportion, just  listen  and accept their point of view. You don’t have to fully agree  but acknowledge your partners point of view and tell them that they make sense.

Going forward think about the bigger picture, you are both healthy and well  you will get married, it’s  not at the time you had originally planned  but you have the rest of you lives to enjoy being married. Look to the future think about about the stories you can tell your children  years from now.  How you coped as a couple,  How  you worked together as a couple to overcome the challenge.   Some couples have been keeping a lock down diary to remind them of how they  got through this time with strength and resilience, just remember that its just one postponed day in your life  and your relationship is far more meaningful that that.

If you have already booked us as your wedding videographer and are concerned or thinking about moving you wedding to a new date, please feel free to contact Eamon here at Drangan Video for advice.
