Planning a Wedding in December

Over the past decade we have seen a huge upsurge in winter weddings, particularly in the seasonal month of December. If you and your loved one are getting married in December of this year or 2020, we hope you find this article helpful when making your all-important plans.

The team here at Drangan Video are always delighted to film winter weddings and we come fully equipped with all the latest technology, know-how and videography equipment to ensure we capture your special day in all its winter glory!

Below you will find some tips to ensure your winter wedding goes as smoothly as possible:

1. Choosing your venue
When choosing a venue for your winter wedding, it’s important to take the weather into account. If you have opted for a church wedding ceremony, try to choose a venue that is close to the church so that any adverse weather conditions won’t impact on your guests when travelling between the ceremony and the celebrations. For those of you who are exchanging vows in a civil ceremony, select a venue that will allow you to host both the ceremony and the reception in the same location. This will ensure that you and your guests will not have to brave the cold weather unnecessarily.

2. Daylight Hours are Shorter
It’s important to remember that daylight hours are at a minimum during the month of December, so you will need to plan accordingly. Plan your ceremony as early as possible to leave ample time for photographs, outdoor video shoots and travel time to your venue.

3. Keep Warm
Keeping you, your bridal party and your guests warm and comfortable should be a top priority when planning your big day, after all you don’t want the most important people in your life to be suffering with colds and coughs after your big day. Purchase warm shrugs or wraps for your bridesmaids and offer guests blankets and throws in any outdoor seating areas. You should also ask the venue to provide outdoor heating in any areas where guests might congregate.

4. Winter Warming Drinks
Upon arrival at your reception, it’s a great idea to offer guests a warming celebratory drink, whether that’s mulled wine, Irish coffees or a hot whisky, you can be assured that your guests will appreciate the effort on a cold December day.

5. Winter Wedding Décor
Speak with your venue about the seasonal décor that will be in place in the suite or room you have booked for your celebrations. You may not celebrate Christmas or may not be a particularly religious person, so it’s important that you make your décor requirements clear to the hotel or venue in advance. Keep in mind that the seasonal décor in hotels and churches at this time of year could really help you save some money!

6. Winter Wedding Favours
If you are a lover of Christmas and want to include some winter wedding favours for your guests, you could consider personalised tree baubles, sugared almonds or Christmas crackers. All are readily available online and some or Ireland’s leading charities sell Christmas tree baubles at affordable rates!

Drangan Video: The Changing Face of Wedding Videography

Over the past 25 years as a wedding videographer, I have seen a huge change in trends, technologies and editing software. The tools available to the modern videographer have greatly enhanced the service we now offer and Drangan Video has embraced each and every one of these changes.

In this blog post I’m going to tell you a bit about our modern approach to wedding videography and the changes we have made over the years to become one of Ireland’s most sought after wedding videographers.

Wedding Videography Tipperary

Brides and grooms consistently tell us that they are surprised at just how hands off we are, never intruding upon personal moments and in many cases their guests have told them they didn’t even know we were there! This style of non-intrusive wedding videography allows us to capture the moments as they really happen and deliver a beautiful documentary of the day to our wonderful brides and grooms. How do we do it, I hear you ask?

Changing Technologies

Let’s take the exchanging of vows as an example. During the wedding we make a point of never getting in the way of the natural progression of the vows or ceremony and we do this by setting up our cameras and filming from a distance. Modern technology has given us with the ability to do this by providing the groom with a pen-like audio recorder that can be inserted into their suit or shirt pocket. This tiny device picks up all audio and ensures we can deliver top quality sound on all videos, regardless of how far away we physically are. There is absolutely no need for a modern videographer to be intruding upon these special moments!

Changing Trends

It has now almost become a tradition to film the preparations on the morning of the wedding and I absolutely love this trend! Providing our videography services to couples on the morning of the wedding means that we get to truly capture the excitement in the hours before the ceremony. The enthusiasm is absolutely infectious and we are blessed to capture some truly tender moments between close friends, families and neighbours. When our couples look back on these moments, they get to see parts of the day that would otherwise remain a mystery. It really is truly special to share these moments after the big day with your new spouse and enjoy them together for the first time.
Changing Approach

Drangan Video Kilkenny and Tipperary

Over our time in the industry, we have honed our skills to a degree that ensures none of our shots are ever set up. This takes great pressure off the couple and means they can go about their day without ever having to worry about whether the videographer is capturing everything. We will be your eyes and ears for the day, never missing a tender moment or asking your guests to pose for shots. Our approach is natural, non-intrusive and results in a truly incredible documentary of your big day.

It is with this in mind that we take a strictly ‘hands-off’ approach with our brides and grooms. We don’t want you to worry about what we’re doing, nor do we want to take you away from your celebrations to film posed videos or shots. Leave the work to us and we will make sure we capture every moment of your big day in all its natural glory!

Documentary Wedding Videographer  Kilkenny
What is documentary style wedding videography?

Documentary style is best described as ‘natural’ videography. There are no posed shots, no direction from the videography team, and no interruptions to your big day. We simply become invisible to you and your guests and capture the moments of your celebration in a very natural way. Discreet, documentary style videography tells the story of your day exactly how it happened!

Benefits of discreet, non-directed wedding videography

There are many benefits to this style of wedding videography, these include but are not limited to:

• Total discretion – we never interfere in proceedings and make sure that our presence is almost unnoticeable to your guests.
• No posed shots – this means we will never take you away from the natural flow of the day. We hang back and take the natural footage that presents itself during this important day.
• No direction from our team – you won’t hear any of the Drangan team giving directions to the bridal party or guests. They won’t even know we’re in the room!
• We let you tell your story to the camera – we blend into the background and capture the story of your day as it unfolds naturally.
• Authenticity – Our documentary style and discreet presence adds to the authenticity of your wedding video. When the guests are unaware of our presence, they become relaxed and act naturally in front of our discreetly positioned cameras.
• Emotions captured as they happen – real emotions, un-staged smiles and a true reflection of how you and your guests are feeling throughout the day.
• More focus on the little things – sometimes the little things can make all the difference to your big day. We pick up on the moments that can sometimes go unnoticed, interactions between relatives who haven’t seen each other in a while, a smile from the corner of the room, a child sleeping in the corner – it’s these little moments that make our style so special.
• Less intrusive than traditional videography – our discreet, hands-off approach to capturing the moments in your day mean there is no intrusion to the celebrations.

Wedding Anniversary Gifts for the Future

Last weekend I  had the pleasure of filming two delightful weddings in Kilkenny,  bumping into so many married couples that had hired Drangan Video  to record their special day  has provided food for thought regarding the content for this wedding news blog. One couple were celebrating their 10th wedding Anniversary other couples were looking forward to celebrating 5 years of married bliss,  in this article we are taking a closer look at wedding anniversary gifts.

Happy Kilkenny Couple celebrating their  first wedding anniversary

Now that you have tied the knot and are looking forward to a wonderful future together, it’s important that you take time to remember your big day year after year. In this article we are going to talk about the traditional gifts that are associated with each anniversary up to the 30-year mark. We’ll explore the gifts associated with later anniversaries in a later article.

1st Anniversary – Paper
Celebrate your first anniversary with a gift made of paper. Whether you choose a favourite first edition book, a diary, a photo album or tickets to a special event, paper should be the centerpiece of your gift.

Happily married Kilkenny couple

2nd Anniversary – Cotton
The gift most associated with a second wedding anniversary is cotton. Choose from candles that smell of cotton or bathrobes to snuggle up in.

3rd Anniversary – Leather
Leather is traditionally associated with gifts for your third wedding anniversary, the beauty of a leather gift is that it will last for years if good quality. Opt for a smart wallet/purse, a handbag or satchel or a leather bound book or diary.

4th Anniversary – Fruit and Flowers
This one is pretty self explanatory, treat your loved one to a hamper of fruit and flowers, perhaps organise a picnic or prepare something fruity for dessert that evening.

5th Anniversary – Wood
Your wooden anniversary can be celebrated by gifting a jewellery box, a handcrafted sign or trinket box or a framed picture of your big day or another special occasion you have celebrated over the past 5 years.

6th Anniversary – Sugar
Something sweet for someone sweet, gifts don’t get easier that this! Treat your loved one to candy canes and chocolate on this special day.

7th Anniversary – Copper & Wool
Copper jewellery, comfy woolen scarves or a combination of both can make this anniversary a day to remember. Ireland has a wealth of handcrafted items on offer in both copper and wool so you can be sure you’ll find something wonderful to gift to your loved one.

8th Anniversary – Bronze
Bronze represents strength and unity due to being a product of copper and tin. This special anniversary allows you to explore the many bronze Irish crafts available in most cities, towns and villages across Ireland.

9th Anniversary – Pottery or Willow
Pottery and Willow are said to be representative of a 9th wedding anniversary because they can both be used to create strong, lasting products. Both are flexible but with creativity and determination can transform into strong treasured items.

10th Anniversary – Tin
Tin can be used to store perishables and delicacies, keeping them safe and preserved for future nourishment. Tin represents strength and protection so it’s absolutely perfect for celebrating your tenth wedding anniversary.

15th Anniversary – Crystal
If you’re determined to stick to traditional anniversary gifts, this is where the price may become a bit higher than you have been used to over the past 14 years. Luckily the price of crystal has come down in recent years and good quality crystal can be purchased for a reasonable price.

20th Anniversary – China
China has always been the gift of choice for those celebrating their 20th anniversary, however more modern gifts have been associated with platinum, we’ll let you choose!!

25th Anniversary – Silver
Silver never goes out of fashion, it’s pretty much timeless and can be used for everything from jewellery to electronics. We can’t think of a better gift for your 25th anniversary.

30th Anniversary – Pearls
Pearls are said to be a symbol of beauty hidden within, however they also represent strength and unity and are the perfect representation of your 30-year marriage.

Videography and Drone Footage for your Wedding

The majority of Irish  couples  are hiring  a videographer  to film  their  wedding day  in order to relive those special  memories over and over for the rest of their lives.
Drones are becoming more and more popular at weddings, improvements in aerial video technology have reached new levels in picture quality, camera size and flight control.
Here at Drangan Video we offer  drone videography with all our wedding packages this  helps us  to go above and beyond and greatly enhance  our standard wedding films

Drone wedding videographer in Kilkenny

In this blog post we would like to introduce you to one of the very latest trends in wedding videography – drone footage.

Drone videography is a trend that has developed enormously over the last 5 years in Ireland. No longer just a hobby, the development of state of the art drones and onboard cameras and videos now mean drone footage can make a huge statement on your big day.

What is a Drone?

A drone is a remotely controlled unmanned aircraft. For the purposes of capturing your big day from the sky, our state of the art drones use onboard cameras that allow us to deliver incredible footage of your wedding from a perspective that will take your breath away.

Approved Drone Pilot:

Our approved drone pilot is registered on the ASSET drone registry, which is a national database of approved drone pilots operating in Ireland. This register is regulated by the IAA (Irish Aviation Authority). Since 2015, all drones over 1kg or any drone regardless of size that flies over 15m above the ground or water, must be registered with the IAA.

Expert Drone Pilot:

Drangan Video work with http://hiddengemmemories.com to deliver the most professional drone wedding videography available on the Irish market today.

Benefits of Drone Videography for your Wedding:

• Fantastic group footage: Whilst your guests are mingling after the ceremony, it’s nigh on impossible to get them all together for some video footage. With our onboard drone cameras we can capture the scene from above, meaning no one is left out of the picture.
• You and your loved one have gone to a lot of trouble to book the perfect venue, wouldn’t you like that captured on video to remember for the rest of your life? All to often, couples spend months visiting venues in order to choose the perfect location, but how often does that venue get featured in all it’s glory in the wedding video? With our drone, we can capture the venue from above, so you can remember just why you chose this special place.
• Location shots: If you are lucky enough to be getting married in a scenic spot, we will work with you to develop a plan to capture all of the most scenic locations on your wedding day.
• Impress your guests: As drone wedding videography is a relatively new wedding service in Ireland, you can be assured that our service will surprise and delight your guests. A great icebreaker and talking point that will ease your guests into the celebrations of the day.
