Essential Wedding Planning Tips and Tricks

Tip 1: Guest numbers are important
Now that the excitement of the engagement celebrations are over, it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty! You don’t need to make up a precise guest list at this stage, but having an approximate number will greatly assist you with the rest of your planning.
Tip 2. Check your dates
When choosing a date to get married, most of us never think of issues that may arise, but it’s incredibly important to check the calendar before you commit to a date. Public holidays and big local event days are probably best avoided as they can increase hotel rooms costs for your guests and may be problematic for those driving in heavy traffic to celebrate your big day.
Tip 3: Pay attention to mother nature (particularly in Ireland)
Whilst we all dream of a day with blue skies and endless sunshine, it’s always essential that we plan for every weather eventuality. Planning a wedding in July in Ireland does not guarantee sunshine so keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for any last minute changes to the weather.
Tip 4. Ask for recommendations
Once you have booked your venue, it’s time to start looking at your other wedding vendors. We have found that most hotels and vendors keep a preferred supplier list, which they are more than happy to share with couples. Let one vendor lead you to another and know that when you support local small businesses, your wedding is making a real difference to those who are self-employed.
Tip 5. Stick to your budget
When setting your budget, it’s important to remember that 50% of your wedding expenses will be spent on food and drink for you and your guests. With this in mind you may want to consider a number of different catering options to assist with budget management.
Tip 6: Always ask
Don’t be afraid to ask your venue for those little extras at no extra cost, if you don’t ask, you don’t get, right? Most venues are happy to throw in something extra free of charge, whether that’s some music upon arrival, a free round of drinks for the toasts or a reduced price for guests staying at the hotel. Don’t feel shy about asking, wedding venues are well prepared for negotiations and will always be able to offer you something to secure your booking.
Eamon here at Drangan Video will be happy to recommend other vendors and suppliers that he has worked with over the years and is always on hand to answer any queries you may have.
