The wedding industry has been turned on its head since the arrival of Covid in Junuary 2020, couples were planning three-day celebrations spread across multiple venues with guest lists of 200 considered the to be normal practice. In less than twelve months, couples became accustomed to conducting wedding ceremonies via live streaming and guest numbers from between 25 and six people, depending on Government restrictions.
Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny a surprisingly popular trend has grown: micro-weddings. couples are proving that smaller wedding celebrations can be just as enjoyable as large scale events.
Kilkenny couple Kate & John enjoyed a lovey wedding ceremony in Dunmore Church Kilkenny, surrounded by family and close friends, followed by a fab wedding reception in the Stephouse Hotel Borris, Co Carlow. It was a pleasure to have been their wedding videographer with just 50 guests it could be discribed as a small wedding but it certainly had the engery of a much larger bash.
Little Big Weddings In Kilkenny & Tipperary
I always remind couples that your smaller celebration shouldn’t feel like a cut down version of a wedding day because it is one of the most important days in your life. I have always been recording small Intimate weddings around Tipperary & Kilkenny and looking forward to many more as couples realize that you can still have a fabulous wedding day with less than 100 guests
When planning a smaller wedding you have a lot more options when it comes to what you really want from the day, couples are now having their wedding receptions at home which is very special and more easygoing. One of the most beautiful weddings that I have covered had only 6 guests at their home and it was so special. The couple put huge effort into the whole experience for themselves and the guests, it is my favorite wedding video from last years collection.
Every couple want their wedding to be different, This is your chance to go ahead with a different wedding day, Just because you are having smaller wedding you don’t have to compromise. A small wedding allows you to be more relaxed allowing time to enjoy your planning. Think of your wedding day as a reflection of your personalities as a couple it will give space to plan an unforgettable wedding day.
Weddings are very expensive events its amazing how quickly the costs add up, so its easy to understand why so many brides ask whether they really need to hire a wedding videographer. In this blog post I’m going to tell you all about the importance of having your big day captured on video, Unlike photographs, videos give you all the sounds, action movie shots, from the most memorable day in your life keeping it on file forever more. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, here are a few reasons why you should consider having a wedding video after all.
Here at Drangan Video we get lots of feedback from Tipperary and Kilkenny couples who are happy to share their wedding day experiences, couples who did not have a videographer say that they regret not having their big filmed
Regretting Not Having a Wedding Video: because after not having a videographer, I’m realizing that it’s the biggest wedding regret and mistake that we have made.
Mary & James Kilkenny.
We asked a family member to film our wedding, it was a huge mistake we regret not having professional wedding videographer. They can capture all the important moments with good sound and edit out any shaky camera shots.
Elaine & Micheal Tipperary.
Wedding Day Memories on Video
You are going to have lots picture memories from your wedding day, family and friends will be taking photos and video clips on their phones, more than likely you are considering hiring a professional wedding photographer. Most brides want to remember their wedding day and they want it captured professionally, so why not get those memories professionally and carefully filmed and edited into a beautiful wedding movie that you will cherish for many years to come. Another thing to consider is that videos take up considerably less room than printed photos, a full wedding film can be stored on a single usb drive or dvd disc. Video images are more interactive because you are able to see guests as they really were without been asked to pose for the camera on your big day. Friends that are living in other parts of the world that you don’t get to see anymore or family that may not get to visit as often as everyone would like. Videos will capturing those special moments and can transport you back to that day in a magical way, unlike photos. They can let you hear your Parent’s laughter again or listen to your little ones laughter and games. Having these memories on video are simply priceless.
Wedding Videos for Generations To Come
Here’s another good reason to hire a wedding videographer, your kids. Maybe right now they are too small to appreciate the full meaning of your big day. Having a video of your wedding day to share with them when they are older would be magical , it could be described as reliving history. Think about how many times you have checked out your grandparents photos and old scratchy videos. You might think, look at what they were wearing back in those days or look at that old car how models have changed over the years. Having a wedding video is an easy way for you to be able to pass on your personalities and sound bites to your children and their children and maybe even their children’s children. Those little pieces of history will be really special to your family down the road when they are collecting pictures and old stuff out of the attic. Instead of just being a name written on paper you become real again, especially to those that may not have ever gotten to know you. If you’ve ever researched your own family tree, you already know how exciting it can be to find little things from those family members who lived long before us. Why not leave a wedding video for your family to find one day.
The importance of wedding videos: is the ability to travel back in time and relive one of the best day of your lives with friends and family that may never get together the same way again. Our memories fade as we grow older and having those memories close at hand on video with sound and voices just like they were, is a treasured experience that you will be able to share for years and years. It helps to build a family history for future generations and beautiful memories for yourself and your partner. So if you are in two minds on whether or not to get a wedding videographer for your special day, my advice to you is yes go for it, Save yourself all those regrets and just hire a professional wedding videographer.

Spring 2021 will soon be just a distant memory, summer is just around the corner we look forward to long balmy days filled with sunshine and happy events. Here at Drangan Video we are all set for a busy summer covering weddings in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow and other counties, we are confident that restrictions will be eased over the coming weeks.
This weeks blog news story takes me back to February 13th for the wedding of Amber and Donal in Tullow Co. Carlow, like so many other couples Amber & Donal were looking forward to a large wedding with over 100 guests for the ceremony and reception but like so many others they had to downsize due to covid restrictions. The church ceremony consisted of just 8 guests followed by a reception in Amber’s house in Ballymurphy Carlow with just both sets of parents.
Thanks to Amber & Donal for allowing me to share their amazing highlights video in this news article. The story begins with coverage of morning preps with Donal who is a member of the Irish Army, it was lovey to get all the uniform details, medals, buttons and shoes all coming together to reveal a dashing groom dressed in splendid attire.
My next location was Amber’s parents house just a 15min drive from Donal’s house, it wasn’t your typical bridal preps the Bride was in charge of doing her own hair and makeup, surprisingly she was very calm and taking everything in her stride, February 13th was a freezing cold day with a covering of snow under foot, the photographer suggested a few photos on the front lawn , Amber arrived out in her dressing gown for a few shots beside an old bicycle, Carlow Brides are made of tough stuff.
The Church ceremony was very personal, my video coverage consisted of two cameras one static shooting from the gallery and a floating cam on a mono-pod in the body of the church. Amber and Donal were so relaxed and comfortable all through the ceremony, the video features lots close up happy shots of them just been happy.
After the church we went straight back to the house for the photos and reception, just the bride and groom and both sets of parents sitting down for dinner. The first dance took place in the kitchen, followed by speeches before dinner.
Memories of this lovey couple will remain with me for many years to come, they were both so down to earth and easy to work with. They have all the ingredients for a happy marriage, a great sense of humor, not taking themselves seriously and above all they are madly in love.

Due to Covid restrictions and the necessity of social distancing micro weddings have become a more popular choice for couples wishing to get married under the current guidelines. Here at Drangan Video in Kilkenny & Tipperary we are happy to embrace the new micro wedding trend, check out the following wedding highlights film.
Laura and Brian Micro Wedding In Kilkenny
Laura and Brian had been planning their big day for mid summer 2020, they had been looking forward to having 200 guests, needless to say it was very disappointing having to postpone until December with only a fraction of their original guest list celebrating with them on the new date. They were able to hold on to most of their suppliers thankfully I was still on the list for December.
The new guest list included family and a few close friends the hotel was dropped in favor of a home reception hosted Laura’s parents in the family home. Video coverage began with coverage of the morning preps in the house, followed by a lovely ceremony in Folkstown Church on the Waterford road it is one of my favorite wedding ceremony venues in Kilkenny.
Wedding Photos In St. Kieran’s College
After a dry morning the weather in the afternoon was not favorable for an outdoor photo shoot, laura & Brian got permission to have photos done in St. Kierans Collegue. It is the oldest Catholic secondary school in Ireland, the building and grounds are the perfect location for wedding photo shoots, Shane O’ Neill from Aspect Photography captured amazing images in his usual easygoing no fuss style.
What Is A Micro Wedding ?
Micro weddings are sometimes confused with elopements, an elopement is usually just the couple their witnesses and a celebrant. Micro weddings are usually limited to 25 guests including the Bride & Groom. The smaller number of guests creates a more personal experience for the entire day and provides more freedom to chat with guests. Micro weddings are so appealing they will certainly be a popular choice for the foreseeable future.
A recent review from a Micro Wedding In Carlow
Couples really should consider a micro wedding, I think some people can get caught up in the party sometimes which is so not the most important part. Myself and Dónal just wanted to married and I’m sure we will have a party when everything is completely safe to do so. If someone would of told me I’d be getting married with 10 people there and having a reception in my family home with just our parents and that our wedding photos would be at our house, or that I would be doing my own hair and makeup and dancing our first dance in our sitting room with my doggies running around I would have laughed. Instead I absolutely loved all of the above so much that I even completely forgot my bouquet ha ha.. typical me!! Eamon you are honestly such a gentleman, can’t wait to see the outcome of the video.
Thanks again Eamon
Here are a few things you should consider when shopping for a wedding videographer to make sure your entire experience with the finished production is as good as it can be. Over the past 20years Drangan Video has been lucky to have worked with so many amazing couples in Kilkenny, Tipperary and up and down the country, in this blog post we are happy to share the typical questions that we receive regarding our services.
Shopping for a wedding videographer in Kilkenny
What is the style of the finished product Music Driven / Montage described as a music video style, we use very little natural audio from the day, all video captions are overlaid with music. This would suit couples who are working on a tight budget, or simply don’t like hearing the sound of their own voices, it has been requested from time to time and is a nice memory of the day.
Dialog Driven Wedding Film
This is one of our most requested wedding film styles, finding natural audio clips from the day, using real toasts, the wedding vows and general audio from the full day to form a unique wedding story. It requires more skill and time its one of our more up market packages, judging by feedback from our customers its worth the extra spend.
Some videographers like using very short clips fast style with upbeat music, others edit with a slow dreamy style while paying great attention to color grading. Each videographer will have their own natural default production style. My style certainly dose focus on the couples personality and is dialog driven, when you view Drangan Video films, you will see the couples personality shining through.
So ask what is your Style of Videography? Don’t be afraid to ask your videographer this question, It will help you understand what to expect from your wedding film. My style has always been a journalistic approach allowing for more non intrusive free flowing wedding day. I get some shots with imperfect lighting and unusual angles, for couples and guests who prefer been filmed from a distance this would be their perfect choice of wedding videography.
Who will be filming your wedding. Here at Drangan Video all our weddings are shot and edited by Eamon, if an extra videographer is required that can be arranged. A good personality is important especially for a wedding videographer are you comfortable dealing with them, are they good to be around on the day and do your other vendors feel comfortable working with them on the day.
Try to talk with your proposed videographer to make sure that you are comfortable with him/her, Photographers have told me stories about videographers who were trying to take control of the photo shoot and not working in harmony during the photo call, all that tension will have a negative impact on the Bridal Party and families. Most videographers can produce good results when conditions are perfect, but professionals produce great results even when things are not going as planned, the weather can be unpredictable here in Kilkenny So we always need to have a plan B
Can you tell me about your wedding video experience You will want your wedding videographer to have many years of experience, the longer they have been shooting weddings the more they have learned and will be able to handle any unexpected situation that may pop up.
Have you filmed at this wedding venue before?
If your videographer has filmed at the venue before, they will know all the best places for the best shots, they will know the management and staff which helps to keep everyone happy and smiling.
Have you worked with my photographer before This is a very important question to ask your videographer, also ask your photographer the same question. If the photographer and videographer aren’t able to work smoothly together, it is going to affect your photos and video and your personal mood. An experienced videographer will be willing to adapt their style to blend in with the photographer.
The Final Product The final product that your wedding videographer is offering can be confusing the reason is because we all offer different packages, getting your head around the following buzz words is important FacebookTeaser/Sneak Preview/Trailer/Instagram Highlights, These are similar names for the same product. Our short edit films are usually between 1 minute and 5 minutes duration on Instagram, they are the films that our couples would have watched when checking out our work. We like to keep it simple yet producing high quality wedding videos ( Stylistic documentary Edits)
Delivery Format DVD, Blu-Ray, USB, Online We deliver DVD, Blu-Ray, USB Drives and online more and more videographers do not deliver these formats but more experienced videographers will still offer these delivery options. All our highlight films are delivered online in addition to physical delivery.
When will I get the final product You will have to decide whether a faster delivery, or a top quality wedding film is more important to you, a faster delivery usually will mean less quality but a longer time frame doesn’t always guarantee a better video, our turnaround on delivery is normally 4months.
How much do you cost A wedding video can cost anything from as little as €600 right up to €3,000 you can spend as much or as little as you want. Wedding videography is a creative talent and because of that the price gap can vary dramatically. A well established seasoned videographer is going to be at least as expensive as your photographer. Our top video package @ €1200 provides coverage of the full day from morning preps up to 11pm in the evening.
Should I take the risk of hiring someone with little experience. You can’t do a re-run of your wedding day, you won’t get a second chance with the video. A highly experienced, skilled videographer will capture a wedding in ways that a budget videographer simply can’t, when you enter the church to see your groom, you want to remember his face, and not the clumsy videographer who has setup his tripod in the center aisle. You don’t want an award looking camera man appearing in every wedding photo. Novice videographers are more likely not to have a backup plan when cameras, recorder, cards or hard drives fail. Low budget always means low quality product, and you’ll never get second chance for your wedding DVD.
If you are searching for a wedding videographer for your wedding in Kilkenny, Tipperary or any other county, please feel free to contact myself Eamon here at Drangan Video who will be happy chat to you about our range os affordable wedding video packages for 2021 and 2022.
