The wedding industry has been turned on its head since the arrival of Covid in Junuary 2020, couples were planning three-day celebrations spread across multiple venues with guest lists of 200 considered the to be normal practice. In less than twelve months, couples became accustomed to conducting wedding ceremonies via live streaming and guest numbers from between 25 and six people, depending on Government restrictions.
Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny a surprisingly popular trend has grown: micro-weddings. couples are proving that smaller wedding celebrations can be just as enjoyable as large scale events.
Kilkenny couple Kate & John enjoyed a lovey wedding ceremony in Dunmore Church Kilkenny, surrounded by family and close friends, followed by a fab wedding reception in the Stephouse Hotel Borris, Co Carlow. It was a pleasure to have been their wedding videographer with just 50 guests it could be discribed as a small wedding but it certainly had the engery of a much larger bash.
Little Big Weddings In Kilkenny & Tipperary
I always remind couples that your smaller celebration shouldn’t feel like a cut down version of a wedding day because it is one of the most important days in your life. I have always been recording small Intimate weddings around Tipperary & Kilkenny and looking forward to many more as couples realize that you can still have a fabulous wedding day with less than 100 guests
Big Little Wedding In Kilkenny
When planning a smaller wedding you have a lot more options when it comes to what you really want from the day, couples are now having their wedding receptions at home which is very special and more easygoing. One of the most beautiful weddings that I have covered had only 6 guests at their home and it was so special. The couple put huge effort into the whole experience for themselves and the guests, it is my favorite wedding video from last years collection.

Wedding Day Memories on Video
You are going to have lots picture memories from your wedding day, family and friends will be taking photos and video clips on their phones, more than likely you are considering hiring a professional wedding photographer. Most brides want to remember their wedding day and they want it captured professionally, so why not get those memories professionally and carefully filmed and edited into a beautiful wedding movie that you will cherish for many years to come. Another thing to consider is that videos take up considerably less room than printed photos, a full wedding film can be stored on a single usb drive or dvd disc. Video images are more interactive because you are able to see guests as they really were without been asked to pose for the camera on your big day. Friends that are living in other parts of the world that you don’t get to see anymore or family that may not get to visit as often as everyone would like. Videos will capturing those special moments and can transport you back to that day in a magical way, unlike photos. They can let you hear your Parent’s laughter again or listen to your little ones laughter and games. Having these memories on video are simply priceless.

Wedding Videos for Generations To Come
Here’s another good reason to hire a wedding videographer, your kids. Maybe right now they are too small to appreciate the full meaning of your big day. Having a video of your wedding day to share with them when they are older would be magical , it could be described as reliving history. Think about how many times you have checked out your grandparents photos and old scratchy videos. You might think, look at what they were wearing back in those days or look at that old car how models have changed over the years. Having a wedding video is an easy way for you to be able to pass on your personalities and sound bites to your children and their children and maybe even their children’s children. Those little pieces of history will be really special to your family down the road when they are collecting pictures and old stuff out of the attic. Instead of just being a name written on paper you become real again, especially to those that may not have ever gotten to know you. If you’ve ever researched your own family tree, you already know how exciting it can be to find little things from those family members who lived long before us. Why not leave a wedding video for your family to find one day.
The importance of wedding videos: is the ability to travel back in time and relive one of the best day of your lives with friends and family that may never get together the same way again. Our memories fade as we grow older and having those memories close at hand on video with sound and voices just like they were, is a treasured experience that you will be able to share for years and years. It helps to build a family history for future generations and beautiful memories for yourself and your partner. So if you are in two minds on whether or not to get a wedding videographer for your special day, my advice to you is yes go for it, Save yourself all those regrets and just hire a professional wedding videographer.

The celebration of weddings in Ireland has undergone a total transformation since the arrival of Covid-19. At the beginning of 2020, a full weekend celebration in various locations was typical, with guest lists of 200 considered to be standard practice. Now 12 months later people have become accustomed to attending ceremonies via live streaming and guest attendance numbers have been cut to 25 people, depending on levels of Government restrictions.
Out of the pandemic, a lovely new trend has taking root ” Our Little Big Day” also described as a micro-wedding is the norm, couples all over the world are proving that small weddings are big on fun and emotion.
Eileen & John Henry’s Little Big Day
Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny the 2021 wedding season is in full swing, thankfully for Drangan Video couples are still choosing to hire a wedding videographer to capture their special day. Eileen and John Henry were married in Mullinahone church followed by a lovely reception in Hotel Minella Clonmel.
Video coverage of the day kicked off with John Henry and the boys getting ready in the couple’s new house situated at the foot of one of Tipperary’s most famous landmarks. Slievenamon is easily recognized by its large sandstone hump overlooking the Golden Vale. It is the title of Tipperary’s GAA anthem, Sliabh na mBan – Mountain of the Women. The video features some cracking drone footage of the rolling green fields surrounding the couples new home. The boys scrubbed up well for the camera it was a nice intro to the wedding film, I got the feeling that the lads were happy when I announced that I was heading off to film the girls.
Wedding Couple Thatch Pub Tipperary
It was only a 15min drive to Mullinahone for the bridal preps the area is best known as Kickham country, the house and farm are surrounded by lush flat green fields which looked fabulous through my drone lens. The area locally known as Kickham Country inspired the 19th-century writer, Slievenamon remains his best-loved ballad.
It was a joy to have been part of the morning preps the house was buzzing with excitement and fun, the video features Eileen reading a letter from John Henry the words are featured as background audio for the duration of the clip.
The ceremony took place in St. Michaels Church Mullinahone , thanks to Fr. Danny for been so upbeat and friendly helping a slightly couple to feel relaxed and ready to say yes. On arrival at the church Eileen was greeted by a number of friends and relations standing at a safe distance on the church grounds only a small number of family and bridal the bridal party attended the ceremony. After the ceremony friends lined up on the street to wave the couple off.
Happy couple on country lane in Tipperary
The Thatch Pub in Cloneen Tipperary was our next stop needles to say the pub was closed but we got lovely video shots and photos outside the pub. It is tucked up a bye-road in the village of Cloneen It is one of the most origional country pubs in Tpperary, beautifully coloured by centuries of smoke and chat. Make sure to check out the ledger with customers accounts going back the the 1860’s.
I was delighted with the footage captured all around the Thatch the very last scene shows our romantic Bride & Groom strolling up the old lane behind the pub.
Wedding Reception In Hotel Minella Clonmel.
The Minella is one of my favourite wedding venues, it is very much sough after by Tipperary and Kilkenny Brides the attention to detail hast to be seen to believe. The Nallan family have been in business since the 1960’s and like a good wine this wedding venue keeps on getting better every year.
Eileen & John Henry’s wedding reception was nothing short of amazing, fires lighting to warm our hearts on a cold December evening, it was like a mini banquet and yet adhering to Covid guidlines.
Hotel Minella Clonmel Tipperary It was in 1961 that a dream came true, and Minella was purchased by the late Jack and Babs Nallen, taking two years of refurbishment, with the opening of their country house hotel in April 1963. Add on another 50 years, with extensive redevelopment and constant refurbishment, Minella is now managed by John and Elizabeth, Children of Jack and Babs, fulfilling that dream.

Many of my couples say that they would love to have a wedding video but they haven’t allowed for it in their budget. There are so many things to budget for when planning a wedding, costs add up quickly and many couples find themselves having to decide which suppliers will be included in the final list. If it comes down to cutting out certain wedding day costs to suit your budget, don’t cut something as personal and long lasting as the wedding video. I’m not trying sell my product in this blog post but I do want to share a personal view regarding wedding videography. My wife and myself were married in 1983 at that time a wedding video was a very expensive luxury that we could not afford, we have a lovely photo album which we take out at family gatherings, all these years later we often comment, If those pictures could only speak.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY VS VIDEOGRAPHY
Photos are timeless they can be saved on PCs and hand held devices for sharing with family and friends they can also be printed and preserved in a wedding album. A photo is a single frame frozen in time allowing you to look at it for a few seconds or minutes, every photo tells its own story. Videography allows you to re-live your ceremony, speeches and sound bites from morning preps. The combination of audio and video work together to relive the emotions from the most important day in your life.
Couples say to me that their wedding day flew by but we are so happy to have a highlights film and a full documentary video of the entire day on USB and DVD. I’ve heard from couples reflecting on their wedding day that their biggest regret was not having a videographer It is a worth while investment that will appreciate in value and let you relive all the emotions time and time again with your children & grandchildren in future years. For me here at Drangan Video its all about persevering beautiful moments in time that pass us by, memories that were often forgotten thankfully now we have the ability now to capture time and hold on to it forever looking at it over again and again. That is the magic of video and what I do at every wedding I record.

Kilkenny couple busy with wedding planning
Shopping for a wedding videographer in Kilkenny
What is the style of the finished product Music Driven / Montage described as a music video style, we use very little natural audio from the day, all video captions are overlaid with music. This would suit couples who are working on a tight budget, or simply don’t like hearing the sound of their own voices, it has been requested from time to time and is a nice memory of the day.
Dialog Driven Wedding Film
This is one of our most requested wedding film styles, finding natural audio clips from the day, using real toasts, the wedding vows and general audio from the full day to form a unique wedding story. It requires more skill and time its one of our more up market packages, judging by feedback from our customers its worth the extra spend.
Some videographers like using very short clips fast style with upbeat music, others edit with a slow dreamy style while paying great attention to color grading. Each videographer will have their own natural default production style. My style certainly dose focus on the couples personality and is dialog driven, when you view Drangan Video films, you will see the couples personality shining through.

So ask what is your Style of Videography? Don’t be afraid to ask your videographer this question, It will help you understand what to expect from your wedding film. My style has always been a journalistic approach allowing for more non intrusive free flowing wedding day. I get some shots with imperfect lighting and unusual angles, for couples and guests who prefer been filmed from a distance this would be their perfect choice of wedding videography.
Who will be filming your wedding. Here at Drangan Video all our weddings are shot and edited by Eamon, if an extra videographer is required that can be arranged. A good personality is important especially for a wedding videographer are you comfortable dealing with them, are they good to be around on the day and do your other vendors feel comfortable working with them on the day.
Try to talk with your proposed videographer to make sure that you are comfortable with him/her, Photographers have told me stories about videographers who were trying to take control of the photo shoot and not working in harmony during the photo call, all that tension will have a negative impact on the Bridal Party and families. Most videographers can produce good results when conditions are perfect, but professionals produce great results even when things are not going as planned, the weather can be unpredictable here in Kilkenny So we always need to have a plan B
Can you tell me about your wedding video experience You will want your wedding videographer to have many years of experience, the longer they have been shooting weddings the more they have learned and will be able to handle any unexpected situation that may pop up.
Fun Weddings in Kilkenny
Have you filmed at this wedding venue before?
If your videographer has filmed at the venue before, they will know all the best places for the best shots, they will know the management and staff which helps to keep everyone happy and smiling.
Have you worked with my photographer before This is a very important question to ask your videographer, also ask your photographer the same question. If the photographer and videographer aren’t able to work smoothly together, it is going to affect your photos and video and your personal mood. An experienced videographer will be willing to adapt their style to blend in with the photographer.
The Final Product The final product that your wedding videographer is offering can be confusing the reason is because we all offer different packages, getting your head around the following buzz words is important FacebookTeaser/Sneak Preview/Trailer/Instagram Highlights, These are similar names for the same product. Our short edit films are usually between 1 minute and 5 minutes duration on Instagram, they are the films that our couples would have watched when checking out our work. We like to keep it simple yet producing high quality wedding videos ( Stylistic documentary Edits)
Delivery Format DVD, Blu-Ray, USB, Online We deliver DVD, Blu-Ray, USB Drives and online more and more videographers do not deliver these formats but more experienced videographers will still offer these delivery options. All our highlight films are delivered online in addition to physical delivery.
When will I get the final product You will have to decide whether a faster delivery, or a top quality wedding film is more important to you, a faster delivery usually will mean less quality but a longer time frame doesn’t always guarantee a better video, our turnaround on delivery is normally 4months.
How much do you cost A wedding video can cost anything from as little as €600 right up to €3,000 you can spend as much or as little as you want. Wedding videography is a creative talent and because of that the price gap can vary dramatically. A well established seasoned videographer is going to be at least as expensive as your photographer. Our top video package @ €1200 provides coverage of the full day from morning preps up to 11pm in the evening.
Should I take the risk of hiring someone with little experience. You can’t do a re-run of your wedding day, you won’t get a second chance with the video. A highly experienced, skilled videographer will capture a wedding in ways that a budget videographer simply can’t, when you enter the church to see your groom, you want to remember his face, and not the clumsy videographer who has setup his tripod in the center aisle. You don’t want an award looking camera man appearing in every wedding photo. Novice videographers are more likely not to have a backup plan when cameras, recorder, cards or hard drives fail. Low budget always means low quality product, and you’ll never get second chance for your wedding DVD.
If you are searching for a wedding videographer for your wedding in Kilkenny, Tipperary or any other county, please feel free to contact myself Eamon here at Drangan Video who will be happy chat to you about our range os affordable wedding video packages for 2021 and 2022.
