The celebration of weddings in Ireland has undergone a total transformation since the arrival of Covid-19. At the beginning of 2020, a full weekend celebration in various locations was typical, with guest lists of 200 considered to be standard practice. Now 12 months later people have become accustomed to attending ceremonies via live streaming and guest attendance numbers have been cut to 25 people, depending on levels of Government restrictions.
Out of the pandemic, a lovely new trend has taking root ” Our Little Big Day” also described as a micro-wedding is the norm, couples all over the world are proving that small weddings are big on fun and emotion.
Eileen & John Henry’s Little Big Day
Here in Tipperary and Kilkenny the 2021 wedding season is in full swing, thankfully for Drangan Video couples are still choosing to hire a wedding videographer to capture their special day. Eileen and John Henry were married in Mullinahone church followed by a lovely reception in Hotel Minella Clonmel.
Video coverage of the day kicked off with John Henry and the boys getting ready in the couple’s new house situated at the foot of one of Tipperary’s most famous landmarks. Slievenamon is easily recognized by its large sandstone hump overlooking the Golden Vale. It is the title of Tipperary’s GAA anthem, Sliabh na mBan – Mountain of the Women. The video features some cracking drone footage of the rolling green fields surrounding the couples new home. The boys scrubbed up well for the camera it was a nice intro to the wedding film, I got the feeling that the lads were happy when I announced that I was heading off to film the girls.

It was only a 15min drive to Mullinahone for the bridal preps the area is best known as Kickham country, the house and farm are surrounded by lush flat green fields which looked fabulous through my drone lens. The area locally known as Kickham Country inspired the 19th-century writer, Slievenamon remains his best-loved ballad.
It was a joy to have been part of the morning preps the house was buzzing with excitement and fun, the video features Eileen reading a letter from John Henry the words are featured as background audio for the duration of the clip.
The ceremony took place in St. Michaels Church Mullinahone , thanks to Fr. Danny for been so upbeat and friendly helping a slightly couple to feel relaxed and ready to say yes. On arrival at the church Eileen was greeted by a number of friends and relations standing at a safe distance on the church grounds only a small number of family and bridal the bridal party attended the ceremony. After the ceremony friends lined up on the street to wave the couple off.

The Thatch Pub in Cloneen Tipperary was our next stop needles to say the pub was closed but we got lovely video shots and photos outside the pub. It is tucked up a bye-road in the village of Cloneen It is one of the most origional country pubs in Tpperary, beautifully coloured by centuries of smoke and chat. Make sure to check out the ledger with customers accounts going back the the 1860’s.
I was delighted with the footage captured all around the Thatch the very last scene shows our romantic Bride & Groom strolling up the old lane behind the pub.
Wedding Reception In Hotel Minella Clonmel.
The Minella is one of my favourite wedding venues, it is very much sough after by Tipperary and Kilkenny Brides the attention to detail hast to be seen to believe. The Nallan family have been in business since the 1960’s and like a good wine this wedding venue keeps on getting better every year.
Eileen & John Henry’s wedding reception was nothing short of amazing, fires lighting to warm our hearts on a cold December evening, it was like a mini banquet and yet adhering to Covid guidlines.
Hotel Minella Clonmel Tipperary
It was in 1961 that a dream came true, and Minella was purchased by the late Jack and Babs Nallen, taking two years of refurbishment, with the opening of their country house hotel in April 1963. Add on another 50 years, with extensive redevelopment and constant refurbishment, Minella is now managed by John and Elizabeth, Children of Jack and Babs, fulfilling that dream.
