What to do after the big day

In this blog post we are going to talk a little bit about what happens when the big day is over. All those months if not years of planning come to a head on your big day and then all of a sudden you’re wondering what comes next, hopefully this article will give you some tips on how to spend the days following your nuptials.

Stay an extra day

If you are celebrating your wedding at a hotel, it can be lovely idea to stay an extra night with your wedding party, or immediate family. Use this quality time to unwind and reminisce over the big day, you can also use this time to catch up with anyone you may have missed out on mingling with during the wedding breakfast. Many hotels offer an extra night free for the Bride and Groom so make sure you enquire about this at the time of booking your venue.

Make a List

It may be tempting the day after your wedding when you see all those cards and gifts to tear into them- that’s understandable, it’s like Christmas! All those beautifully wrapped gifts and nicely addressed envelopes to you and your new Mr or Mrs. However, make sure you take a breath and remember to make a note of all those generous guests who brought gifts for your big day, you will want to thank those people later. Making a note of who gave you cash and who got you that handy bread maker will mean you’re able to pop a personalised message into each card, instead of writing ‘thank you for your generous gift…’ potentially hundreds of times. It also saves you the embarrassment of realising a few months down the line that you missed someone off the list.

Go on your Honeymoon

Traditionally the married couple departed for their honeymoon immediately after the wedding celebration- we’ve all see that scene in Father of the Bride, right? But, while this is probably out of reach for most couples, looking forward to your honeymoon or even planning a late one will bring great joy for you and your new husband or wife.

Wedding Planning Tips Kilkenny and Tipperary

Hit the Dry Cleaners

In this instance you can probably pass this along to one of the bridal party (if they’re feeling up to it the day after). You’ll likely have a few pictures taken outside after saying ‘I do’ which might mean your beautiful dress has been trailed through the mud, or had a few things spilled on it during the course of the day, not to mention all that dancing. Your wedding clothes may be the most expensive togs you ever invest in so, take care of them by taking them to the dry cleaners as soon after the big day as possible.

Relax

Coordinating your big day, no matter what size it is, can be TIRING, this remains true for all event planning. Likely you’ll have planned treatments before the wedding so you’ll look your best, but why not book a massage in the days following your wedding so you can start married life feeling and looking great too?

Make a Weekend out of it

More and more, we are seeing brides and grooms host a second night of entertainment and celebration the night following the wedding day. Consider hosting an ‘after party’ at your local pub or club and extend the festivities so that you get to enjoy the occasion in a more informal setting. This is a particularly good idea if you have relatives and friends who have travelled to attend your nuptials and allows you to spend some more time in their company before they depart.

Planning Interactive Entertainment For Your Wedding Day

Drangan Video has recently been lucky enough to provide wedding videograper services for a number of weddings in Kilkenny and Tipperary. At these weddings we were able to gain some inspiration for this ‘interactive’ wedding blog post, which we hope you will enjoy.

Apart from the vows – and the brides’ dress of course – one of the most important parts of any wedding party is the entertainment. It’s the entertainment that helps you and your guests to relax, kick your shoes off and really get into the spirit of things. Over the past number of years we have seen a large shift from the traditional entertainment of just a band or a DJ and a move towards a more interactive experience. The band and DJ will always have it’s place and we would be 100% remiss to think otherwise, however, it may be worth checking out some other varieties of entertainment that will compliment the music and have your guests raving about your big day for years to come.

Whether you’re having a laid-back outdoor wedding or a traditional formal wedding, it’s a good idea to ensure your guests are entertained throughout what can be a long day (especially for the kids).

  1. Hire a Magician

A magician is fun for guests of all ages, making it a great form of entertainment to have at your wedding. Most magicians on the Irish wedding circuit are happy to perform during the reception, after the toasts are completed and in the foyer as a welcome for your guests.

For those of you who have children at your big day, a magician can be a great way to get them to gather together and relax for a bit whilst the entertainer does his thing!

  1. Dance Lessons

Weddings and dancing go hand in hand, but why not take it a step further and offer your guests dance lessons.

Hire a dance instructor to teach your guests how to dance. It’s a great way to get your guests involved and to get everybody up on the dance floor.

Visions of line dancing, cha cha cha’s and old time waltzes will make great memories for you and your guests.

  1. Cocktail Bar & Liquor Tasting

We have seen cocktail bars now at a number of wedding venues, and they go down an absolute treat with the adults at the party. Consider hiring a professional cocktail maker or mixologist who can demonstrate and entertain those guests who want to avoid that queue at the bar. Let the adults sample some exotic liquors and consider setting up a kiddies cocktail bar with sodas, ice-creams and fruit juices, this will ensure all ages have an unforgettable experience

  1. Pick and Mix Sweet Stand

Rather than just handing out sweets to the guests or leaving parcels at their table, why not set up a pick and mix stand instead? The pick and mix sweet stand is an attraction that is sure to attract guests of all ages. Guests can help themselves and take home customised jars of goodies as a special memento of your big day.

  1. Make your Own Food Station

Whether it is crepes or hot dogs, a make your own food station can be a great way to make mealtime a bit more exciting. This could get a bit messy, so be prepared!

We’re sure there’s lots more interactive options available for weddings up and down the country and we would love to hear about any unique suggestions you may have, so please feel free to drop us a line.

Seasons Greetings from Drangan Video

This year has certainly been a busy one for us here at Drangan Video and without doubt, it has been a joyous one. We have been lucky enough to travel the length and breadth of Kilkenny and Tipperary offering our services to happy brides and grooms.
I have witnessed some of the most beautiful places Ireland has to offer and been party to some incredible local wedding ceremonies in Kilkenny and Tipperary.  It’s now hard to believe that the year is almost at a close and 2016 is just around the corner.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our customers, past, present and future, a very Happy Christmas and hope that your festive season is filled with fun, family, happiness and of course romance for you all.
With the year nearly at it’s wintery end, I have put together a few items for our 2016 brides and grooms to think about on the lead up to their big day:

What weddings could look like in 2016
– Hair and Makeup

Feminine, elegant hair and makeup looks set to be a big trend in 2016. Beautiful up-do’s such as side-swept buns and chignons will be as popular next year as they have been in 2015. Also, experts in the industry are predicting that much of the hair and makeup in 2016 will be vintage-inspired.
Continuing with the vintage-inspired theme, brides will likely opt for more neutral eye makeup with the focus put firmly on the lips. Of course, these are just trends and brides should wear whatever makeup they feel most comfortable with. Your wedding makeup should reflect your own personal style.

– The Dresses

The trend for bridal dresses with long sleeves, and sleeves in general, will continue throughout 2016. Strapless gowns will no longer be as universally popular as they once were, and lace continues to hold its own in the years ahead.
Dresses with plunging necklines have been featured prominently in spring 2016 catwalk collections and also look set to be popular with high street retailers. For bridesmaid gowns, there appears to be a large trend for blush pink and pastel blue dresses.

– Colour Themes and Décor

Stonewash colours and pastels look set to be trendy shades in 2016, making them a great option for brides and grooms that want to try something different. In terms of decor, whimsical romantic themes will be popular as couples start to focus more on the romance of their special day, rather than the formality. Chandeliers, flowers, and candlelight will all be popular décor elements in 2016.

– The Food

In 2016, while the traditional wedding cake will still stand strong, a few food trends do seem to be competing for the top spot. Miniature food, whether it’s quiche or cakes, will prove very popular. Miniature deserts in particular look set to be the new big trend in 2016.

I hope that budding brides and grooms find our rundown on the trends of 2016 useful for planning your 2016 wedding. Don’t forget to check back with our blog for more tips, ideas and trends for weddings in 2016. As always, if you require wedding videography services in Kilkenny, Tipperary or any part of Ireland  please feel free to contact Eamon here at Drangan Video at any time of the year for superb videography packages to suit all budgets.

Seasons Greetings from all at Drangan Video
